I'd take Cinnamon Horchata and Winter Abbey over a good chunk of beers also on that route...but yeah...

The Sandlot is one thing, the new Blue Moon is another (albeit same brewery brand). From the article it sounds like the four brewers are staying at the SandLot location and that this new Blue Moon location will provide "added brewing capacity for recipes getting a try-out as a possible Blue Moon seasonal or specialty beers."

edit: n/m those beers are Blue Moon variants... didn't realize.

There of course is the whole craft vs. crafty debate too, but alas, I don't care that strongly about it, just good beer.

And yes, they will probably brew a couple better recipes than beers on the route.

Is this "Sports Authority Field" anywhere close to Mile High Stadium? Seems like it would be, from the address...

Oh it's that place where the Chiefs (from still arrowhead) will make Peyton look like a hobbling has been this year. I kid I kid, but tailgating just got even better for football Sundays.

yeah they might strike out here or there, but they definitely have had their fair of good beers like you listed.
seeing that Blue Moon has been around since some of the new players were in middle school or high school let the crafty BS stop. They have been brewing craft beer a long time and it's a gateway brewery if nothing else.

I get down on a Blue Moon seasonal now and then. The Rising Moon amber with lime was my transition to craft from college drinking. And on @Domingo 's recommendation I had that cinnamon horchata one last winter and it was pretty fucking delicious.

The Blue Moon seasonals and side beers are often way more legit than you might think. Plus, I think their other "craft" divisions are at least partially involved with them.
Cinnamon Horchata might be the candiest of candy beers, but dammit if it isn't amazing. Stick your pinkie out and drink it down without fear.

Just a matter of principle to me. Every $$ that goes to BMC does not go to local/craft brewers.

Can of worms...what if those local and craft brewers were making a product that was inferior? Many of the places noted for their quality (like Comrade, Mountain Sun, S26, Hogshead, etc.) don't distribute packaged products. Plus...we've been supporting local craft brewers like Ben, Troy, Wayne and the guys coming before and after them. Plus, even craft breweries are directly connected to international corporate entities like Barth Haas and Weyermann...both of whom I support.

Haha, had to log in and give props for the Godfather reference! I'm staying neutral on the beer issue, though.

I've never enjoyed any of those all that much, but Domingo and I have very different palates.

I mean, he doesn't even like hop water!

Well hold the phone now, in my defense I said "my transition to craft" which was like 9 years ago now and that I had ONE horchata that was pretty good. EASE UP!

I appreciate when someone does something well, and Sandlot/Blue Moon have been known to make palatable beers from time to time. As @Domingo said, there's more than a few places in town where I only WISH it was as good as a boring-ass Blue Moon.

Also if that broke your heart, you should see how much PBR and Key Light I'mma consume in 6 weeks at Lake Powell. It'll tear you to pieces!

Not new anymore, but I went to Liquid Mechanics for the 3rd time today and it'll be my last.
My first time was soon after they opened. I walked in, they didn't have a single beer style I cared about and I walked out.
The second time we got their imperial porter, pretty good, nothing that lit our socks on fire but respectable.
Today I stopped in for the bourbon porter and it was sour. I don't know what causes the sourness, but I've noticed some other small breweries had the same issue with their BA stuff, most notably Crystal Springs and their Black Saddle beer. I want to say Odyssey had the same issue, but I can't swear to that one. Soured bourbon-aged (well rum too in Crystal Springs' case) beers just anger me.
Then I had their tequila aged kolsch and it was just a bunch of nothing.
I usually only stop in there on my way back from Tasty Weasel, but I can't see myself bothering anymore.
Plus: they told this guy that they won't fill his clear growler because they're afraid of it negatively affecting the beer quality. The guy plainly told them that he's drinking it within an hour. So it's not like it's going to sit on a King Soopers shelf for 2 weeks under florescent lights. But they refused to fill it anyway and wanted him to buy one of theirs *shocked face*.
What this tells me is that there are some high minded beers dorks laying down the rules, but no actual business people in charge. They lost a sale for no good reason because of lofty ideals. They may do well because they're the only option, but that doesn't make them good and I won't be wasting another stop in.
