That’s totally my interpretation of Jester King as a brewery, and one reason I find myself buying their product. While I’m no Jester King historian, I seem to remember Commercial Suicide being their first commercial offering. Which to me is something wildly different than what most other breweries offer up at the start. While the beers that you mentioned above probably do pay the bills, to me, they are a variation of the beers that I was originally commenting about (with the exception of maybe BlackMetal). To me, the beers you mention all have that unmistakable Jester King quality. They are all “farmhouse” beers. They are all unfiltered, unpasteurized, and bottle conditioned. That’s what makes them different from the IIPAs, IPAs, PaleAles, Blonds, and Hefes that are usually released. It’s just my opinion that JK realized there was a potential market for something different. And being in DFW, I appreciate that. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of tasty brews coming from this area. Just nothing I’ve seen on the level of JK. Standard lineup included.
