Been living in Boston for the summer. Heading back south and wanted to know what are some beers I need to take back home with me. Thanks

Depends where "south" is....what NE beers can you get where you're going?

Pretty Things, Berkshire, Cisco (if you like sours, albeit pricey sours), Jack's Abbey, Mystic, NEBCO stuff (if you can find any), SixPoint, CBC - just a few quick thoughts. Not sure what styles you are going after.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've had Jack D'Or from Pretty things, Jack's Abbey lager, and Mystic Saison Reynaud they were all good. It doesn't really matter on the styles.

I echo everyone's suggestions and initially thought Pretty Things stuff, Hoponius Union from Jack's Abby, Berkshire Czech pils (current seasonal, quite tasty), some Cambridge Brewing stuff... with the addition of something from Clown Shoes and maybe some Dark Element from Element Brewing (love that last beer). Plus there are all the newbie breweries that you won't find outside of Massachusetts. I haven't tried more than a couple samples from them all, but you may want to look at Night Shift, Idle Hands, Enlightenment (if you can find it), or Slumbrew (though I'm not impressed with them, but others are). Mystic falls into that group, too, but you said you've already tried them. Cheers.

Smuttynose Pumpkin. Good example of what a pumpkin beer should be IMO....subtle spice & good mouthfeel from the pumpkin.

lot of good suggestions in this thread, esp hoponius union and all things CBS and PT (in particular from pretty things a fresh batch of meadowlark should either be on the shelves or hitting very soon). another angle you might want to take into consideration is the breweries available here (not necessarily locals) that you don't get in your area. especially from the likes of highly regard breweries such as founders, firestone walker, etc... boston is very solid from a distribution standpoint.

very true! I've tried rye on rye, love child #2, and tank 7 from the boulevard smokestack series for this reason. I think I can get Founders at home, but I will definitely look in that direction as well!

Going to buy beer tomorrow...thinking a mystic, pretty things, maybe a CBC, a smokestack series, hoponius union, and perhaps a Element or Idle hands any more suggestions or thoughts? Thanks! Heading back to the south this weekend. Found the craft beer scene in Boston to be a lot more interesting than at home, but still enjoy RJ Rockers in my hometown!
