Bad Dream has a super cool coffeehouse vibe, like nothing else in CT. The majority of the beers are average (stout was good), but their IPA was atrocious.

Would pop in again once the recipes mature a bit.

This is where it's heading eventually. Towards a center point. Notch Dog and Pony Show is an excellent example. The trubby chasers are here for a while but the middle point between WC and NE is the new frontier. Or the old frontier because it's really the old VT IPA many have taken to ridiculous levels.

I've been watching this place growing (literally) in Colchester Ct when I go to my favorite local cheese place right down the street
Hop Culture Farms & Brewing Co.
They are growing hops and currently restoring an old barn for a taproom. Opening planned in Sept. and just started a Kickstarter campaign

Cool to see something like this pop up in my old stomping grounds. Is Harry's Place still any good? Colchester Bakery was always a must too. Lot going on in that little town.

Harry's is still ripping. Their lobster roll bangs. Not sure about the bakery but they made the meanest rye and pumpernickel in the day!

Those were the same two we grabbed everytime. Ruined me for anyone else's.

A minimum hour wait during Christmas and Easter. And well worth every minute. Before TH was even a fleeting thought. Imagine that; a full hour+ wait for bread. Spoiled neckbeards! Think Hop Culture will be good. Location and concept are ok. Unsure as to the prowess of the brewer. I hope good things are forthcoming.

That's some funny shit. Colchester Bakery is the original NE line gangster. I was a witness.

Opening planned in september? If they mean a brewery/taproom, this seems wildly unrealistic.

You could very well be right, they look to be doing a lot of the work themselves and I believe they are still working at their other jobs too

Doing this part-time and with the floors only poured a month ago, I don't really see it opening this year based on other breweries' timelines.

Hop fields are looking great, though. Good luck to them!

I've never understood the point of Kickstarter for something like this. Do you have a business or don't you?

If you do, raise money or borrow from a bank. If not, do some more work until you have a business. It doesn't look like they are anywhere close to their goal with 22 days left.

I don't mind Kickstarters if the rewards are fair/good value for money. IE, if you're trying to build a $200 dingus and you'll sell it for $150 to backers, fine, cheaper dingus for me. There's still a moral hazard if the creators of the dingus end up selling their company for a zillion dollars and you see none of that, the way a real investor would, but at least the basic transaction was fair.

But like, $30 branded pint glasses? Look, I support local businesses and small farms and all that jazz. But I support them the way you support a business, ie through the exchange of money for goods and services. They're not charities. And buying a branded pint glass for $30 is an act of charity.

Never supported one of these, even for breweries I like a lot, because I have never seen one that was offering fair value for the money.

Maybe a little too far out to add to your list, but add Little Red Barn Brewery in Winsted, aiming for a Oct/Nov opening, which means...

This is the actual note in my text file from early June:
"Little Red Barn Brewers (Winsted, next spring, groundbreaking has not yet occurred)"

Looks like they've made some progress, at least.

Tribus packaged their first beer out of the brite, so they should be open next week.

Busy couple weeks for CT. A couple places definitely ahead of my expectations.

Tribus (Milford) kegs went out.. Launch party with an IPA and DIPA tomorrow at Eli's (5:30-7:30) and bar 333 (7:30-9:30) in Milford on Friday. I should be at 333 for a bit. They won't open the taproom until August.

Labyrinth (Manchester) posted a bunch of bags of malt on IG and did a test batch last week. They should be open late next month or early September.

Norbrook Farm (Colebrook) is still testing equipment.

Niantic public house (duh) is still doing interior work.

Problem Solved (Windsor) put their first beer (a milk stout) in the tanks on 7/15.

East Rock Brewing (New Haven) put their first beer (a pilsner) in the tanks on 7/13 or 7/14, but it looks like they'll be distribution only to start in roughly 3 weeks.

Woodbury (duh) poured their first beer (a pale ale) on 7/20.

It is VERY difficult for a start-up business to get bank loans. Most big banks will only lend to a business that's been around for a few years and has a certain sales volume. And if exceptions are made, they're made in known, established industries that banks have been lending to for a long time and there's a benchmark rate of success.

The brewery boom is, relatively speaking, still in its infancy, so banks are very reluctant to hand money out in the industry.
