Anyone seen any Lamplighter on draught yet? They said they were having an event at Posto in Davis Square and that "other bars and restaurants in Somerville and Cambrige would be receiving kegs"

Ended up at Exhibit A last night after realizing that being on the Mass Pike in Natick at 6:45 wasn't getting me to Tree House on time. Had glass of Kolsch and samples of pale ale, IPA, kettle sour, and porter. Kolsch and porter are probably my two least favorite of those five styles but the two beers I actually enjoyed the most. The porter in particular I thought was excellent. Also some of the friendliest staff I've ever encountered.

Would definitely recommend Exhibit A for pre-dinner beer and Jack's Abby to grab something to eat (and more beer).

It appears that Lasting Brass will be opening in Oakville, CT (a stone's throw from Waterbury) by the end of the year. For the select few who have ever had the pleasure and fortune of having Ed's brews, you know this is a long overdue and most welcome addition to the local brewery scene.
Believe me, this brewery will not fly under the radar for long. I may even get admonished by fellow BA's for posting this.

Homefield Brewing is now open in Sturbridge, MA. Good place for a full pour before or after Tree House if you are leaving via Rt 20 E. Was impressed by their hoppy offerings, and they were having a release party for Henry and Fran's (coming soon to W. Boylston MA) first beer, which was also very enjoyable.

I enjoyed the Hopload IPA, the stout, and the black ipa (nostalgic of the black ipa hey day from 4 years ago).

Seems like Counter Weight is getting close, two, three months maybe?

Does anyone know exact location in Hamden? Would like to set my navigation default location.

It seems like the beer market is more crowded then ever. And there's a lot of mediocrity out there. I'm really curious to see what the craft beer landscape looks like in a few years

This deserves it's own thread. I've thought a lot about this. I wonder if we're at some peak saturation.

    I think we'll see:
    • Some of the giants (Lagunitas, Stone, Sierra, DFH) return to the top of the sales market for craft. I've returned a bunch to them recently. They make great, consistent product. We overlook them too much.
    • The destinations like Russian River, Tree House, HF remain destinations. You go their for the experience of going there, beer is world class across styles.

    I hope we'll see:

    • Some stall in distro. I like the idea of hyper-local taprooms (let's get more operating hours and full pours, huh?) that cater to a local crowd. I don't need to see every single massachusetts brewery at Julios or Redstone of CBC. Floods shelves with mediocrity.
    • More breweries opening with diverse taprooms: Not just IPAs and double IPAs with a stout mixed in for good measure. I'm talking German porters and old ales and pilsners.
    • A change in growler laws. So many good breweries, but I have no more space for stupid growlers in the basement.

This should definitely be its own thread. If only so we can all go on record with our predictions so that we can look back in a couple years and see who was the most wrong

The Brett is extremely barnyard. unpleasantly so IMO. lineup is pretty solid across the board though

I'd love to see taprooms and local breweries become more the norm. Having your own local brew that's fresh, and enviable by others is something to get excited about. It helps the trade market, those true beer fans that travel to sample beers as a fun hobby.

These places just need to be profitable to see more pop up.

Widowmaker Brewing could be coming to Braintree soon.

Homebrewers hope to open Braintree brewery
Partners hopes to expand their homebrewery into a commercial operation in Braintree.

    By Fred Hanson
    The Patriot Ledger

BRAINTREE - Local homebrewers Colin Foley and Ryan Lavery are hoping to get into the beer business by opening a small commercial brewery brewery on Wood Road.

"We've had some success homebrewing, and we've won some homebrewing awards," Lavery said in an interview Tuesday night.

The proposed brewery would operate in 7,900 square feet of a building at 220 Wood Road which also houses Pure Hockey. Lavery said the brewery would be able to produce batches of 227 gallons of beer at a time, and the businesses would include a retail area and tasting room.

Lavery said they also hope to sell the products of their Widowmaker Brewing at local bars.

The Boston Business Journal had a list of "33 breweries on tap to open or sell in the bay state in 2017" online yesterday. Some are not really new, but new bricks and mortar (Tree House, Down the Road, Backlash, Hopsters), but there are a bunch I'd never heard of (I guess not surprising).

It's an exciting, if overwhelming, time to be a beer lover, but a terrifying time to be opening a new brewery.
