    Hello all!

I am planning a trip up to New England in Mid-August. However, I would like to post my plan and see if anyone has tips/recommendations. I will be travelling to Vermont/Cape Cod/Boston.

First, I plan on arriving in Waterbury, VT on a Wednesday evening and staying at the Old Stagecoach B&B. I plan on going to Hen of the Wood for dinner and walking over to BlackBack/Reservoir/Prohibition Pig that night with the GF. Thursday morning, I plan on going to the Warren Store at 9:30 for some of Lawson's goodies then heading to Hill Farmstead by noon and eventually the Alchemist. I will probably stop at Three Penny for a burger and beer afterwards before heading over to the Cape.

My questions for Vermont are; would I be able to pick up Heady Topper Wednesday evening if I arrive before 6 pm or should I just wait for Thursday afternoon? Also, will the Warren store have their shipment of Lawson's by 9:30 am or is that way too early?

For the Cape Cod/Boston portion of the trip, I am really just looking for a couple really good food spots and/or craft beer bars (a combo would be best!). I also want to pick up some brews from Jack's Abbey as well as Flower Power / Ghandi Bot. Please let me know of any stores in that area that carry those. Also, suggestions of other local/seasonal beers from that area to track down are very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

PS: If anyone from those areas wants me to bring over some Chicago goodies to trade/share, please let me know and we can set something up.

I only have been to the Warren Store once but when I called ahead they said the Lawsons normally comes around noon. I went after that and it was there. Might want to give a call that week before your trip.

As far as I know, Heady hits most shelves friday morning and is gone by the afternoon. That's how it was last year anyway

Heady canning days have changed - they are now Mondays & Thursdays. You'd be fine heading in there on Thursday, but earlier is better.

Regarding the Boston - it depends which area(s) you'll be in or are passing through. Are you taking rt 91 south from VT then hopping on rt 90? or are you taking 89 south to 93and/or 95? Suggestions depend on the route I think.
FYI - there's no Ghandi Bot in mass anymore.

We're going to be staying at the Cape. I think the plan is to take a ferry over for the day and use public transit to move around the city.

Flower Power is also hit or miss at bottle shops. So you are just in Boston for the day?

Yes, probably just one day (maybe 2) in Boston as we are visiting family on the Cape. I will be making the drive back from the cape the following week though so I am able to make several stops at bottle shops along the way. I'm mainly looking for a great dinner and lunch place in the city that has a great craft beer menu as well as the best beer bar (in your opinion of course).

when are you in Boston do you have time to get to Idle Hands, Night Shift and Mystic. If you can its worthwhile. If you are going down 93 to Boston why dont you stop into Redstone liquors in stoneham. Beer bars in boston just search - meadhall, lord hobo, cambridge brewing company, publick house there is a lot out there.

The Publick House in Brookline is probably your best shot for good food and a good beer menu. After that you got the Cambridge tri-fecta: Lord Hobo, Cambridge Brewing Company and Meadhall. And then after that you got good restaurants with OK draft lists.

So if you are driving from the Cape back to Illinois you can get off the Pike in Westborough and go to Julio's for a bottle shop.

If I had to do food/beer in one night in Boston I'd probably eat/drink at Cambridge Brewing Company and then walk to Lord Hobo to finish the night.

Not a fan of the food at CBC, good beer though.

Where on the Cape will you be staying? Any trip to the Cape should come with a visit to Cape Cod brewing in Hyannis. There is also a British Beer Company there and around the cape area that provide good food and a great rortating tap list. Plenty of good options for food and beer in Plymouth--right over the bridge--as well.

A day trip to Nantucket and a bike ride to Cisco Brewery is a must- probably the best brewery scene in Mass. Nothing like riding your bike to the brewery on a nice day with some snacks and sitting out on the patio with full pours of their beer which is completely different from what you get in bottles. There is a farm stand down the street if you need to get food their.

Thanks for the idea! My girlfriend and I are going to the cape 4/1-4/4 and were looking for things to do, the fact they have a winery there sealed the deal for her!

I was up there just last week. If you go from Waterbury -> Warren -> HF -> Montpelier all in the same day, that is some tough driving. If you plan on that, be prepared to spend some serious time in the car, and spotty GPS connectivity. Just me 2 cents.

Also, you shouldnt have a tough time getting Heady Wed. evening or Thurs. during the day.

Really enjoyed Reservoir the most out of the big 3 down there (Pro Pig and Blackback being the others) re: food, draft list and service.

One more thing - be VERY careful about your plans on driving to the Cape. If you plan on going on a Friday afternoon/evening or weekend day, seriously plan on sitting in hours of traffic on the way there as well as bopping around.
