Hi guys, I am fermenting 5,6 gals of an IRA in a 6,6 gals fermenter wich has a screwcap. It is the first time I use such a fermenter so I would like to ask you if I am doing things well.I started fermentation leaving this screwcap loose to let gas get out, covering it with a tin foil. Now 6 days later fermentation is almost done so I would like to know if I should close this cap hermetically or not.

    Many greetings

Mind posting a pic of the fermenter when you have a chance? I think seeing it would help.

I think if I had a fermenter with a screw top, I would install an airlock. I would want to avoid back pressure until attenuation is finished.

But if attenuation is done, I think you could certainly seal it. That's pretty much like doing a secondary in a keg, at least from a pressure standpoint.

I'm with Vikeman, I would close down once done, and then drill it for a stopper and airlock before next use.

I think you are right, I should have thought about this risk beforehand.

    Thanks
