Mike Hess Brewing says: "In Spring 2026, we’ll unveil our boldest vision yet: a 36,000 ft² flagship brewery, restaurant, beer garden, and distillery at West Harbor in San Pedro." Big plans! can I help thinking of Modern Times? Hess has seven locations now... see: https://www.mikehessbrewing.com/mike-hess-brewing-west-harbor-la/
i'll take breweries who no one wanted to see expand for $100 didn't they open a bay area location a while back too? maybe they can be the new little miss brewing
Might be right. BW says "The location was a production brewery, tasting room, event and music venue encompassing 26,000 sq. ft., and 17,000 sq. ft. as an outdoor courtyard/beer garden."
anti masker anti vaxxer trumpers who fucked off covid regulations while everyone else did the right thing making shit beer bag of dicks
Think I’ve been to Hess once like 10 years ago. Maybe they can find someone who cares in the LA market.
the Mike Hess space is actually within the under-construction San Pedro West Harbor shopping center, the successor to Ports of Call Village. For those not familiar, Ports of Call was a past its prime smaller version of Seaport Village in San Diego. We'll see how this redevelopment will go, that's a lot of overhead for Mike Hess to take on https://www.westharborla.com/directory As for the old Brouwerij West space, this seems to be the next tenant: https://www.dailybreeze.com/2025/05...nr5Ria6TcFhZyAYV5w_aem_Cgv3knQox7y8xlhsiD5cNQ
One time I made an overnight trip to visit Mcillhenney in Alpine. After I got fairly drunk there it was still early in the evening. I wandered down to Mike Hess which was right next to my hotel. Everyone was nice but it was pretty basic. They had a pizza kitchen and trivia going. Clientele reminded me of conservative country folk. I didn’t know about the anti-mask drama until soon after. It seems like including a restaurant and/or entertainment is more indicative of a new location succeeding. Beer quality and variety, not as much.
I encourage Mike Hess to open as many new and oversized locations outside of San Diego as possible, borrowing whatever it takes to do so and putting everything he has, including personal possessions, up as collateral.
Wow, Mike Hess brewing must be a top contender for most hated on BA, even Anheuser-Busch can’t compete based off of this thread. I think I picked up a six or four pack years ago at a grocery store, I figured they must be a big deal to see that kind of distribution, but I really don’t remember seeing them since and don’t remember the beer at all.
For hating the libs so much he really does want their patronage a lot. Big six hanging with tens at the club kind of energy.
you give him to much credit not hate just contempt for being such a douche AND making shitty beer and being a shit example of SD breweries both beerwise and ethos again bag of dicks aloha
Don't know the story of this brewer (I come from the east coast, where HESS was a gas station famous for selling toy trucks at Christmas and having free air pumps) but I'm also a long time "Red" (from back when that meant the opposite of today's "red state" bullshit) so I'm sympathetic with your opinion here. But, I gotta say that "BAG O' DICKS" would be a good beer name.
I don’t think I’m giving him any credit, I just wasn’t really aware of his brewery, much less his political views. I followed all of the Covid protocols and really don’t like people who didn’t, so we’re on the same page as far as that goes. I wonder how he got so big?
I’m a fan of any business that told the government to piss off during COVID. That said, if he can’t make good beer, I won’t drink it. I haven’t seen a Hess beer on any shelf in many years. I wasn’t even aware they were still a thing.
fan of a place that takes PPP loans then fires its staff and pulls a dick maneuver ignoring a global pandemic just to make a couple shekels and putting his staff, what is left after he fires everyone, and customers at risk? fan of a brewery that supports a fucking traitorous fascist death cult? asking for a friend. aloha.
