I noticed that BA doesn't have a photography section in the forums and wanted to run that across you and your team. I feel presentation is a key component and I think having a photography section would be an asset because its another way members can help other members photograph bottles especially the rare ones. They can share tips and tricks and prop ideas, have a photo of the month challenge for members to vote on who took the best photo. Was wondering if maybe you guys would take this into consideration and possibly do a poll?

I immediately posted photos to the thread that you started earlier. This is a big +1 from me.

+1 from me too, though I would be observing rather than posting my amateurish efforts...

Well that would be one of the purposes of this section @wesbray. Amateurs can post shots and get help on camera settings, lighting, props, etc.

Ah - I've been wondering why there hasn't been a photo section myself. Good call & idea.

I don't know the technical in's and out's of photography but I do like composing beer photos. I just shoot until I get what I'm looking for.

i would think it would give a place to discuss in detail, besides just post images. everything from tips like what's the latest phone app that enhances photos well, which hosting service (photobucket, imgur etc.) currently links best/fastest, to Q&A on "how this shot was achieved" etc. could be NEATLY placed in the proposed forum.

Those are good points that you make, Highbrow, but isn't that type of stuff quite confined in the audience that it would draw? I enjoy seeing the pics in the various threads, but I wouldn't be into the details of how the pic was shot, etc.

I underatand you might not be interested in "how the shot was taken" @Mothergoose03 but a lot of people find that interesting especially aspiring photographers as myself. Im always looking for ways to take a photo or find out ways to make my photo eaisier to take. There could also be a photo of the month contest where all BA members can participate in which im sure you would enjoy.

what i would add is i'm NOT an aspiring photographer, though i would say i do enjoy taking pics at times. i've gotten numerous inquiries including a private exchange yesterday on the very topic. given some of the work i've seen others more dedicated to the subject provide, i'd have to guess if i get inquiries, those individuals who are in the field would probably be a much better resource & inspiration. based on inquiries, i would assume the level of interest is a bit higher than mothergoose03 perceives it to be.

what the forum could mean is those questions be answered publicly for whoever wanted access to view without being forced to message members. i'm not complaining about the inquiries, i enjoy trying to be helpful. BUT. i'm not a pro, the answers i provide aren't necessarily gospel, & i would wager even if they aren't wrong, there are 'other' answers or ways/tips that might be offered from others that probably know a bit more than i do.

Having been around this site for a while, I sometimes like looking at well-done beer photos and beer art as well. (e.g., a few years ago we had the opportunity to follow a link to a site where someone did her art by painting with beer) So when I saw the proposal for Beer and Photography it seemed a good idea to me.

That said I think I can foresee a few concerns/problems the site administrators (the Bros.) might have about creating a new subculture/forum such as the one you are suggesting.

For example, one thing consistent over the years is that this site is focused on beer and things related to beer (e.g., discussions of beer, home brewing, breweriana, home bar). So one concern you'll run into is that much of what you've described in the posts above actually seems more focused on how much someone could learn about photography in general (e.g., tips on lighting, etc.) and does not seem specific to beer. So one suggestion I would make to spend a bit of time looking through the Breweriana forum to see if there is some common theme there that could be tweaked and used in making a case for a beer photography forum. (In other words you want Beer Photography, not Photography to be the focus.)

Another concern you'll run into is that of not creating a major new burden on the folks who do the moderating duties on the site. So you'll want to devote some attention and thought to how you'd keep the photography focused on beer and beer in its natural surroundings (e.g., a pour of beer from a freshly tapped keg in Germany, etc.). Similarly, given the gender mix on this site there are "sexist" pictures and things filled with sexual innuendo that would not be appropriate. (While beer **** might be just fine, other types of **** probably would not fly.) So I'd suggest giving some thought to also proposing a set of guidelines/policies that would govern what gets posted and how, and thinking about how the subgroup hanging out in the Beer and Photography forum would undertake to do a bit of self-monitoring/self-policing.

    Good luck!

I am in full support of @jgpineda 's idea. Photosharing has become a major source of beer discovery in the past year and I think it would be great if that was worked into beer advocate somehow. I would be a regular contributor and be happy to answer questions and teach others how I manipulate the photos that I post on my instagram
