Furthermore, 70% of their production is Spotted Cow. The R&Ds are not where there financial success comes from. Lastly you can keep referencing a marketing trick but if u have ever taken a tour u know they spend $0 on marketing.

2 people on CBE just posted full cases of Vintage 2014 for trade. One is none other than our friend Mart Ello

Would make for a cool + to include in the trade the sunglasses, baseball caps, fake mustaches, hoodies, etc used in acquiring the bottles. Maybe throw in a selfie of each 'person' with their two bottles after getting out of line. Perhaps each persona has their own name & background story. "Bonjour, I'm Pierre Leroux from Quebec what iz theez Vintage 2014? Intéressant. Oui, I'd like deux s'il vous plait"

I threw in my 2 cents during a discussion about the best way to allocate certain beers. A classic definition of economics is "the study of the allocation of scarce resources." Like it or not, economics is core to this discussion. That said, the role of prices in a market economy isn't some esoteric principle or an idea that works in theory but not in practice; it's about as basic and practical as it gets. You don't need a PhD or even a single class in economics to understand the fact that, if you're selling out of something, you probably can get away with raising the price.

There seems to be a widespread assumption that people who would rather spend a large amount of time by standing in line are somehow more worthy of the beer than people who would rather spend a large amount of money to buy the beer, and I think that's absurd. There also is a populist notion that high prices are bad because they price out less wealthy people. We're talking about beer here, not clean water or air. We all love beer, but it's about as inessential as it gets. As charities go, "Craft Beer for the Poor" isn't high on my list. Note also that queuing prevents people who are busy or don't have flexibility in their schedules from getting their hands on the beer. Why aren't we feeling sorry for the guy who has to be at work or watch his kids and doesn't have time to stand in line (but does have money to buy the beer at his convenience)?

The responses that are painting New Glarus as outstandingly generous and unmotivated by something as gauche as profit are making my point that underpricing is a potentially successful marketing technique as a builder of goodwill. New Glarus is a profit-making business and, to the benefit of all of us, a very well run and successful one at that.

Really nice to see Deb out today, especially when she walked the line shaking everyone's hand. Literally, every person waiting in line, in the rain (although, more of a drizzle really).

Talked to her briefly after getting my bottles of Vintage 2014. She reaffirmed that Dan has full control over the R&D series, and indicated that the last two releases for the year haven't been determined (although I speculate that they are somewhat limited by what could be ready by the various dates, hence the rumors of Bourbon Barrel Kriek and such). She did indicate that there's still time to do something different (i.e. not from the Wild Fruit Cave) for the October release, so maybe.

As for the economics of the R&D series - throw it all out the window. This is Dan's playground and is not intended to be a money maker for the brewery. I would guess the $10/bottle covers the cost of packaging, perhaps some of the capital investment in the Wild Fruit Cave, and all the additional staff needed for the releases. We are the beneficiaries of the fact the New Glarus is successful enough to essentially give the beer inside the R&D bottles away for free.

are they still available? seems like this second release isn't as crazy as we thought. I'll be driving up tomorrow AM.

They have allocated a number for each day of the release, so some will be available tomorrow - I'm guessing it will be the biggest day, and hopefully the day with the most bottles available.

I'll be up in the morning for the line share... looking forward to it!

There were exactly 4 bottles of wild bitter left as of 2:45. Definitely gone by now.

eh maybe closer to 2:30? I distinctively remember walking into the beer depot and seeing one box of wild bitter on the ground with 4 bottles. I am new to Wisconsin, so I figured the vintage was in the beer depot as well but it was up in the courtyard. I didn't grab any of the wild bitter because I got some already (thanks @Ri0 ). Could be that some people immediately grabbed it up after I walked out.

The people in the courtyard were saying Wild Bitter was sold out when I was there around 11:30. Maybe they found some more hiding someplace?

They must have. I even picked up one of the 4 bottles and it said wild bitter so I know I wasn't mistaking it for vintage.
