I think Gyrator is quite good. I wouldn't put it up there with the Holy Trinity (Celebrator, Andechs, Korbinian) though.

It has a nice clean smooth dark malt presence. Sometimes it tastes like a simple malt with some generic dark fruit, but on some sips I get some more complex chocolate, and maybe even some faint coffee notes. There is some sweetness, but it's not cloying. The finish is pretty dry despite the initial sweetness. I will be buying more.

On another topic, I see on the beer calendar two new beers:

    Blueberry Cocoa Stout
    Mocha Berry Bock

Not sure about these. They don't sound like my bag, but I'm sure I'll give them a shot.

First bottle I had I thought “meh…it’s good.” But then after another two bottles, I love it!! It was an expensive beer for them to make and it still came in 6 packs at around 8 bucks. I love the chocolate flavors! So good!

What's the ideal serving temp for a dopplebock? Is it more towards room temp?
I had a Gyrator straight out of the fridge, and while it tasted great, it had a slight harshness to it. As it warmed up (or maybe my taste buds mellowed out?), that harshness subsided.

I think a blind taste test vs some authentics is in order.

I think 55°F is ideal serving temp for a Doppelbock. Cold straight from the fridge probably stunts a lot of complex characters.

As a general rule: The warmer the bock, the sweeter the bock

I asked them that directly in an email once; I'll see if I archived it, but the gyst was that they didn't want to sell their beers by ABV, just by good brewing.

I wish they wanted to help their customers avoid DUI's, but whatever.

    Real pet peeve of mine.

I agree. If people in Wisconsin want to get hammered, they are not buying high ABV New Glarus...

I'm not sure that's their responsibility. Know when to say when, and all.

    We're all adults, right?

    Right?

If a beer is 5%, I can have it at lunch and driver after.

    If it's 10%, I can't.

Why on earth wouldn't New Glarus want me to know that?

If there’s no ABV doesn’t that mean it’s non alcoholic

FFF still does this too, don't they?

    I don't get it either.

I don't know about labels but they list ABV's on their website.

Maybe putting ABV on the label requires official lab tests, which is then just extra steps and cost. Though since every other small brewery seems to list them, who knows.

Not making excuses for them, but I think we all have a good understanding of what ABVs to expect from any style. NG isn't going to release 10%+ fruit bombs or pastry stouts. If it has "Imperial" in the name, it might be big. Everything else will require the whole 4 or 6 pack to get a buzz from.

As is evident by the reply, I was asking about Cabin Fever back in 2012:
Once again, that's your choice -- if you're unsure, pass. Pretty easy choice -- at least to me.
Actually, I don't think they do.

I believe if you put ABV on a label it's supposed to be within a certain tolerance from an accuracy standpoint which can be problematic if it varies batch to batch. Some breweries can put lower ABVs on labels to get by ABV caps in some states (if they're just barely over). I'm starting to give myself flashbacks from 450N and can't remember whether what they were doing was technically illegal or not.

I think ABV is helpful and should be provided; it'd be weird to put a range on it but I'd be fine with that if accuracy was an issue. While many of us know general ABV ranges for typical styles I think we've all been surprised with some beers being way lower/higher than we expect. I also am confident there are some casual drinkers buying Gyrator who might never have had a dopplebock before and if they drink a whole 6 pack in one sitting they're probably going to be in trouble.

Come on, it takes less time to verify that they do list ABV on their website than it takes us to write these posts on BA.

Edit: Sorry, the confusion is that you're quoting someone talking about FFF which does indeed put it on their website.
