I was in Wisconsin for the 4th and put back a couple six-packs of the new pilsner. Good stuff.

I see people checking in bottles of Edel Pils on the Untappy. Is this a brewery only thing or is that one making it out into distro? I've been keeping a look out and haven't come across any yet so wasn't sure.

Per the Instagram post from 6/7, “…Edel Pils will be available in the Beer Depot starting Wednesday, June 7th. This is a brewery only release for the bottles.”

Looking for some feedback on visiting New Glarus. Looking to go during MEA weekend but it looks like the brewery is not open weekends? Is there no tap room at NG?

They're still closed on weekends unfortunately, yeah. They're open 10-5 Mon-Fri and they do have a beer garden and some indoor places to have their beer. The beer garden is a must-see, imo.

Damn ESOP’s. This is what happens when the employees own the brewery and don’t want to work weekends!

I'd bet the talent pool around there is a nightmare; there are like 5 people that live in NG, so I assume they're pulling a ton of workers from Monroe, which Google tells me has 10k people.

It's a huge bummer though, if you can only get to NG on weekends. I usually end up getting there Wed or so for this exact reason.

Friendly PSA so none of you make the same stupid mistake I did:

The pilsner is a SEASONAL and is now disappearing. Was reminded of this the hard way when I went to re-up at Woodman's last week. It's already gone most places but the mom & pops still have some. Snagged the last 12er from a local yesterday. If you liked it, consider this the last call!

I went to the Depot Monday and they didn't have any R&D out. In fact, they didn't have anything that isn't in grocery stores (unless I missed something). I wonder if they will put out more R&D for the Great Taste week?

What does everyone think of the IPA? I like it. I'm not a huge IPA guy (although I have been known to have a few Two Hearteds). I stick with some tried and true IPAs, like TH and Alpha King (yeah, I know, they call it a PA). Not a big fan of hazy or dank IPAs. I especially can't tolerate any green onion notes. I remember thinking Scream was just ok.

Anyway, I did like the new IPA. I haven't really taken detailed tasting notes, but I would call it more west coast, with a little pine/grapefruit and a blast of bitter.

It reminds me of an IPA I've had in the past (but not for a while). Can't figure out which one though. Maybe Elevated from La Cumbre?

Was at the Woodman's in Menomonee Falls over lunch. Grabbed two of the remaining four 6-packs they had in the cooler.

I think it's pretty good. Nice solid malt backbone and bitterness to balance. I also hate hazey IPAs and am glad it wasn't one, but still would've rather had the Pilsner be available all summer long.

I believe their pull date code is:

First letter = Month of Year (A=Jan, B=Feb, etc)
Second two numbers = day of month
Last number = last digit of year

I recall a number of their beers having a shelf life of 5 months and looking at one review on BA from 12 Jul where the reviewer listed their date code as 'K123 0749' which equates to Nov 12 2023, it seems the IPA is likely having a 5 month shelf life too. The IPA was newly released in June and and a packaged date of 12 June likely aligns with the 5 months to November (unless the reviewer consumed their beer the same date it was packaged in July for a 4 month shelf life which seems unlikely).

Got to try the Edel Pils and the new IPA at Great Taste of the Midwest on Saturday. Really enjoyed the Edel Pils and wish I would have made the run to go get some. The IPA was pretty solid too. I'm not really an IPA guy but I enjoyed the pour; don't think I'd pick up a 6er but would definitely grab a loosey or two for an occasional change of pace beer.

I made a trip to the brewery on the way to Chicago specifically to get the Edel a few weeks ago, and they were out! And the dude ringing me up was kind of a dick, frankly. Maybe he was having a bad day. I was able to get an Edel on tap at Puempel's, and bonus, picked up their last 12 pack of pilsner. I thought the Edel was okay. I bought some IPA, and I quite liked it. Old school bitter, not hazy NE style.

The new batch of Enigma is tasting pretty damn good if I do say so myself. Been 2 or 3 solid years for me of not buying much New Glarus, but damn they roped me back in this year with the hot shit they been dropping all summer.
