I think the link has been posted before, but here ya go- http://www.newglarusbrewing.com/index.cfm/beers/beerfinder
I second Woodmans in Kenosha. a) easy exit off 94, b) very wide selection, both refrigerated & room temp, c) mound o' NG display is something to behold.
A couple of related questions: 1. Are Raspberry Tart and Wisconsin Belgian Red fairly easy to find, or was a cherry shortage an issue this year for the Red? 2. Are Sunday sales permitted in Wisconsin? I might try to hop across the border tomorrow from western MI.
1. No cherry shortage this year, but Belgian Red is in between batches right now so it's damn hard to find on shelves. Word is it will be back sometime this fall. If you see one, buy it. Serendipity is the easiest to find, followed by Strawberry Rhubarb, then Raspberry Tart which has run low but I think is still shipping. 2. Yes. Sunday sales are permitted. The hours might be different at some shops. Only hard-fast rule in Wisconsin is no liquor/beer sales after 9pm. I think they're supposed to wait until 8-9am to start, but few shops enforce this. Border hop from Western Michigan? Like around the lake, or are you in the UP?
Today is a good day- you'll be able to find all the NG fruits (except Belgian Red most likely- although maybe a small grocery store or lucky gas station might still have a some), Thumbprints Spiced Ale, Dubbel, Scream, Apple Ale, AND Cran-bic.
Actually, the hard-fast rule for beer is midnight. Liquor is 9 o'clock. It's up to the municipality whether or not they want to allow beer sales until midnight. I think most places close at 9 for everything since it's easier. I'm kinda surprised you don't know this. Many Madison (especially east-side) residents will recognize the name Vic Pierce--the place you go if you need more beer after 9.
I think Milwaukee has some sort of rule on the books that all to-go alcohol sales within the city limits need to close down by 9pm. I've heard of places just outside the city that can sell after 9pm. Could this be a case of City regulations being tighter than State law?
Yes Local regs can always be more stringent than state, but never more relaxed. Most use 9:00 so they don't have to regulate liquor stores selling 1 product and not another. Too much work to police.
