New Glarus Brewing (2018)

I keep hinting to my buddy who works there that Scream in 16 oz silo cans would be awesome. He does not agree.

 

Decent amount of Mistral left at the depot as of this afternoon...

I'll be in Rockford for work on Tuesday. If anyone can post a Depot update on Monday, that would be wonderful. Or, based on this pic, would it be reasonable to assume this will still be there? Thanks.

 

I have had good luck calling and asking to talk with someone at the depot. With a 2 four pack limit they had enough there for well over a hundred people, so your probably ok.

 

Fun experiment, but surprisingly not much difference--slightly sharper acidity to the older. Just so much yummy JUICE!

 

I found last year's to have a slightly fuller thicker body when we drank side by side. I thought this year's strawberry was a lot stronger (which I attribute to it being fresher). Both are excellent.

 

Just got word Stone Soup drops 5/27 and the second drop of SR won't be until the second week of July. No additional news from NG.

 

While Stone Soup isn't my favorite, it's nice to see them still going into their back catalog. Now if they could just dust-off Alt and Tail Wagger

 

They better be careful, Stone might sue them for making Stone Soup.

 

Haven’t been to Wisconsin in a while. How are they dating their cans?

And am I right that moon man is pretty stable? How old is too old to buy a 12pk of it?

 

The stamped date is the pull date.

First letter = Month of Year (A=Jan, B=Feb, etc)
Second two numbers = day of month
Last number = last digit of year

Not sure if there are exceptions but the beers I've seen are dated 5 months out. So J298 would be a pull date of Oct 29 2018 which means it was canned 5 months earlier in May.

My sister was in New Glarus over the weekend, and grabbed me stuff from the brewery. Apparently they had 4 different R&D bottles, and plenty of Mistral 4-packs still available.

Pretty exciting to have the R&D stuff more readily available, even if it's only brewery-only.

On the other hand, she heard that the 25th anniversary beer would also be brewery-only, which is disappointing. I hoped they'd distribute it like they did the 20th (although I would assume the barrel-aging means a lower yield by far).

 

Just to clarify, Rhubarb is gone for now?

 

Do you know which 4 R&D are available? I’ll be driving through Wisconsin this Saturday and probably could make a detour. Thanks!

I think Gotlandic was there, Champ Rouge, Vintage 2016, and the Sour Porter, I think? Maybe one more, I'm not sure.

 

Strawberry Rhubarb is gone. Second round in July from what I was told when I was there a couple weeks ago.

 

Oh, also Pommier Sauvage (R&D) was there (can't edit my first post).
