Visiting next week, finally, and am very excited as New Glarus has always commanded my respect.

Somewhat odd question though: What’s the best bottle shop downtown? For boring logistical reasons we can’t stock-up at the actual Brewery.

Roy's has the best and cheapest ($1-$2 cheaper per six pack) of standard and seasonal NG offerings.

Glarner Bier Haus has the best selection of non NG offerings, including East/West Coast regionals.

Assuming you are going to the brewery, still worth checking their store for experimental beers and limited releases you may not find at Roy's.

    Killah, thanks!

And yes, we’ll definitely be hitting the NG store itself but are on-foot for the Brewery stop and I won’t wanna lug a buncha beer back to our rental... again, boring logistics.

Also grab a breakfast pizza from Casey's convenience store (seriously). Great base layer for drinking!

Definitely not a joke. After I moved downstate l laughed at my friends who were from around when they ordered a cheeseburger pizza from Casey's. It defies logic, but it's delicious.

Roots in Chicago has a great cheeseburger pizza...and a great beer list.

Does anyone know what R&D bottles they currently have? Wish there was a way to look this up. Going up to Madison on a late-decision family trip and curious. Would be going there on the way back to Illinois so what I think I'll buy at NG impacts what I may buy at a bottle shop, etc. in Madison.

I think your best bet is to just call them. I called them in June to see what they had (particularly to see if they still had any Summer Sour left). They told me everything they had for R&D.

I was up that way about the same time and can confirm that was the case.

On a side note, I'm enjoying the Staghorn and really enjoying the Spotted Cow Grand Cru. If it was regular seasonal, I'd be into it.

We stopped on the way back, Staghorn was very good and I picked up a 6 pack of that and Kid Kolsch; also singles of the apfel and laughing fox. I didn't remember being able to pick up singles of the 12 oz bottles in the shop, glad they do that!

So, maybe this is obvious, but:

Is the clove and cinnamon character in Laughing Fox from the fermentation only? The description makes it sound that way, but it's pretty striking and strong.

It looks like a filtered dunkelweisse. It’s probably the combo of darker malt and the fermentation character you referenced. I doubt it’s spiced. The Germans typically leave that to the Belgians.

Best place to find Belgian Red and Raspberry Tart 750s around Milwaukee? Checked last time I went to Brookfield Total Wine and didn't see any despite my memory of them having them at one point. Are the 750s year round or limited release?

750ml bottles of fruit beer have gone to the way side. New Glarus fruit beer is all in 4 packs format it’s been that way for a year or two now.

You might be able to find some bottles of 750ml fruit beers in peoples beer cellars perhaps?

It certainly seemed like they still periodically release 750s. I've seen bottles show up at stores in the past year (Madison). Maybe they were being cellared by distributors or the store but it seems weird for them to do that. That said, I haven't seen any in a few months.
