So my wife and I will be going on a long weekend "Babymoon" to Chicago in a month or so. Going to be doing some beer shopping for the standard Chicago stuff I can't get in Ohio but we are both very big fans of New Glarus Raspberry Tart. Also would like to get some Serendipity to try. Is my best bet for finding this going to be driving to Kenosha? From New Glarus' beer finder it looks like Kenosha is about 50 miles from where we're staying on Wacker Dr. Thanks for the help.
You should be able find both RT and Serendipity at any modest liquor store, and many gas stations, anywhere over the Wisconsin border.
yep, driving up to the border would be your best bet if you have the time. otherwise you can probably arrange a trade with a BA coming down from wisconsin.
Was just passing through on 94 this week and Woodmans ( right by the exit) had several cases of both Serendipity and Rasp Tart
yeah, finding new glarus is not like finding 3 floyds or bourbon county or anything. the only stuff that is even remotely rare when in season is the r&d brewery only stuff.
it's not in season anymore, but if you're willing to pay a nutty markup mars cheese castle may still have it. when i was there in december, they had enigma, apple ale, and even saison.
No Enigma at the Cheese castle as of two weeks ago when I stopped in. I couldn't believe what they were asking for the NG stuff. Rasp. Tart was 8.99 at woodmans and like 13.99 at the cheese castle. I suggest checking out Tenuta's in Kenosha. It's a few miles off the highway, but totally worth it. Found some 2011 Cerise for 5.49 per 4-pack. Also a pretty good selection of single priced bottles.
So we're heading towards Chicago this upcoming Friday. Gonna stop at FFF on the way Friday afternoon. We're staying at Club Quarters Wacker. I'm going to Mapquest some higher rated BA 'Places' to see if anything is near our hotel but does anyone have any recommended stores within walking distance of where we're staying? I think we're going to head to Kenosha and some Wisconsin gas stations for New Glarus Saturday evening. Any chance of finding any Central Waters stuff either in Kenosha or near the hotel?
there's a binny's on grand and franklin that's not too far away. you should be able to find some central waters there too. also the walgreens at 151 n state has a decent selection just picked up a 4pk of kbs there.
I'm sure you will be able to find some of the CW BB beers in Illinois- was recently at Binny's South Loop last week and they had Peruvian Morning and BBBW (although I gawked a little bit at the $16/4pk price). In the event that you don't though, you'll definitely find them in SE Wisconsin. I haven't been to the Woodman's in Kenosha but you ought to find everything you need there in terms of NG and CW.
the only one you won't find in chicago is the BBA cherry. peruvian and bbbw are both still around but not at every store i've checked.
Just bring some fat head and brew kettle brews with you and you'll be able to get what you want no problem.
