What, you expect people to read/listen without shouting out their opinion? Come on, be realistic.

Just opened a bottle, this beer is absolutely legit. One of the best examples of an American gueuze I've had. Really happy I grabbed more than 2 bottles to sit on.

We opened a bottle on Friday night, and I thought it had the most "Belgian" like funk / brett aroma I've ever gotten out of an American sour. If blindfolded I would have guessed it was a Lambic from Belgium.

Same story here...glad it wasn't a sour brown.

They specifically said it was not a gueuze. It's the same sour aged in different barrels and then reblended. The lambics are the same age.

Something along these lines was said in the Facebook group. At this point I've heard a variety of different things, does Dan or Deb come here at all? Can we get some clarification? I specifically remember being told by someone that it was a blend of one and two year lambic.

I believe that NewGlarus is Dan's account. I know that he had made a few posts in the old BA forums. You'll probably have better luck asking Deb on Facebook.

This is all coming from Dan's mouth on Friday morning when a few of us were picking his brain regarding this project.

Batches 1&2 became the R&D Gueuze from 2010, Batch 3 is the Sour Ale, Batch 4 became Cranbic from last year.

He didn't call it a lambic / gueuze as he wanted to differentiate from those produced in Belgium, and because he didn't want to deal with the geeks (read us) giving him a hard time about the technicalities of the name.

    Cheers!

Because several people on this site DID give him a hassle in 2010, as far as I remember.

Edit: I do not remember who it was and am not insinuating it was anyone in this thread, but remember people trying to call him out in the forums, even though he was essentially doing everyone a favor by even stopping by to talk about the beers at all.

Ok, I kinda thought I remember talking to you and Dan in particular about this, I must've just been confused and/or drunk. Thanks for clarifying that Tony.

With that said, I edit my previous comment to say: "this is one of the best American attempts at a Belgian lambic I've tried"

Toward the end of the night at Great Taste, we found Dan by the Goose Island tent. He told us that Sour Ale was a blend of the 2nd and 3rd batches of NG lambic sour ale.

Both stories are true. I was there to hear both of them from Dan's mouth. Now the question is, was he telling the truth when he was sober or after a full day of drinking?

They were spotted cow t-shirts. And we got a pair of NG Signature glasses as well.

Wow. Can't believe I missed this! I live less than an hour away and had all of those days off, and ended up with zero bottles. Thats what I get for not being as big of a beer geek as I used to be, checking BA at least every other day.
Does anybody want to trade me some?
