A lot of their year round fruit beers really aren't sour. This is a dedicated sour program they are building.

I wonder if Dan will start playing with more Brett and Lacto with all those barrels he's got. I need to get down there and see the new extension for myself!

Just so we're all clear: New Glarus has been brewing Belgian Red since 1994, and it has always had Lacto, Pedio, and Brett in it. (They're in Raspberry Tart too.) I think "start playing" is not the correct phrase to use.

Well yes, he's been doing them since 1994 so that is business as usual. I wouldn't say he has put out too many beers with brett/lacto/pedio as the focus aside from a few of the Thumbprint series in the past two years, I simply meant that he has the ability to blend, taste, alter, and test things out in this new barrel cave. I know we're all clamoring for more VSB and fruited sours, but I'd love to see more saisons/farmhouse stuff from NG.

They are not a farmhouse brewery. They've put out the Thumbprint Saison in 2012 and Imperial Saison in 2009. Both were good, but neither were knock-it-out-of-the-park home runs. I'd be curious as well to see what Dan could do with a Brett/lacto Saison, but it's not really their MO. Then again, you never know what Dan will do with the R&D series.

I agree the Thumbprint saison wasn't anything mindblowing which actually surprised me a bit. The bolded is what's got me so excited though, possibilities are endless even if NG tends to stay away from the "style of the minute" in favor of consistent quality.

Has NG hired any new brewers to help in the Fruit Cave?

People who can't take the weather don't deserve the beer. ;-)

They haven't made any announcements that I'm aware of. Maybe Deb would answer via Facebook, but I doubt it.

Are you asking if they went out and got some Sour Beer Superstar or some other sort of established brewer? If so, I would highly doubt it.

Maybe Dan's gonna work on the new projects and he's going to find someone to help out on more boring beers they offer. I wonder if Kirby Nelson needs the work?
