I plan on visiting Stein's (LA) for the first time on my birthday next weekend to purchase a bunch of beer. What should I expect? How up to date is their beer availability on their website? Do I need to ask for specific beers that aren't out on the floor? Im looking forward to the trip; heard great things.
The website is pretty up to date. That doesn't mean stock is 100% accurate though. You're likely to see many things you wouldn't suspect. I'm not sure if there is a "back stock" thou'll just have to ask....but that doesn't rule anything out. if you can go outside of lunch hours, youre less likely to be called an asshole for buying beer.
That's just Steins. Customer service isn't their strong suit. It gets really packed around lunch, and I've literally been called an asshole for buying a box of beer during that time. Guess that's how they roll in Philly.
Just wanted to make sure. I didn't want to look even more like an asshole buy buying an abnormal amount.
Try the food, too. It's great. But you can't drink beer on the premesis. Dan has several older beers in the back area that he can find and sell you if you inquire (and he's not busy). I picked up an '08 Old Stock at current prices ($3.50) and it was the hit at my bottle share.
If you don't ask stupid questions service is top notch, when I bought my Westvleteren from them Dan called me to tell me I was on his list 3rd in line, etc. Went out of his way to make sure shit went smooth. He also went out of the way to sell me product that hasn't even been put on the shelves, just came out of the truck. I wouldn't say bad service, they're just not afraid to use their smart ass witty personalities. The sandwiches are worth any smart ass attitude you may receive from the staff. I have detoured into NOLA strictly for a sandwich.
