This Saturday (October 17th - my birthday, woo!) Red Hook is hosting the 3rd annual New Hampshire Brewfest. I bought my tickets a few days ago and I am looking forward to it. Has anyone been to this event in the past? How was it? What should I expect?
I've been in years past but skipped last year. It's as good a time as you can expect for a NH brewfest. Distribution is limited, though you may not have had some of the local NH gems. I recall the VIP tickets were worthwhile as most brewers had more limited beers available. Most importantly, arriving an hour early before the crowd is nice. Expect the night session to turn into a drunken party, though in fairness I haven't been to many beerfests that don't turn into that. A brewer line-up is at the website. https://www.prescottpark.org/event/7th-annual-new-hampshire-brewfest
I've gone to the afternoon session four times (2010-2013), but couldn't make it last your or this year. It's been a fun time, with plenty of unusual and good beers, mostly from the local (NH and Maine, primarily) breweries. It's easy to catch a cab into town afterward too.
I've gone to the last two and can say that VIP tickets are a must. Since it's an outdoor event they don't seem to limit the number of tickets they sell. Maybe I'm wrong but that's how it felt last year. I had to leave early because by 2:00 it turned into a total waste of time having to wait in huge lines to get a beer and then wait in line half an hour to use a port-a-potty. There were at least 500 people there during the VIP session, but once they opened the gates at 1:00 about another 1500 - 2000 people joined the fest. There is a pretty good beer selection and the VIP session gets you the opportunity to sample a few other special brews that you wouldn't otherwise get the chance to try.
Sounds like I should have went for the VIP tickets. Oh well, should be a good time regardless. Thanks all.
