We are headed to new Haven (my old grad school town) Thurs and most of the day Friday. Headed from Rochester NY and then leaving for Saratoga springs for a few nights. We are staying in the east rock neighborhood, so walkable to downtown and wooster st.

Besides nebco, bar, da legna, prime 16, 3 sheets, cask republic, and Anna liffeys (an old sentimental favorite), are there any other must hit spots in the area? I know barcade is now open right? 2 roads was also cool last time we stopped.

Are there any other breweries in and around CT, ma or Hudson valley that aren't huge detours on our way to or from new Haven? Not really considering dealing the the tree house craziness. Debating checking out Suarez family and sloop Friday on the way from new Haven to Saratoga, or possibly building 8 in North Hampton. Thanks in advance!

If you are willing to take a drive up towards Hamden, I really enjoyed Mikro when I was previously at Quinnipiac for a conference. Definitely a little more laid back on the Saturday evening I went than the buzz of Prime 16 when I had visited there the previous evening.

Oh and Henry Street Taproom is definitely a nice stop in Saratoga. Had my first taste of Rushing Duck there and it was fantastic. Nice vibe in the room...

Suarez would be a very wise detour!

If you're a fan of sours, which I'm not, I've heard OEC is the real deal

If you're planning on doing Barcade, I'd definitely recommend The Beer Collective as well just a bit further up at Orange and Center.

You covered most of the spots in downtown. Barcade usually has a good taplist, and Beer Collective may be worth checking out. Two Roads if you feel like it but you can find most of their beer on tap in New Haven. As stated OEC for sours (slight detour off 1-84). Not much else on the way to Hudson Valley. Sloop and Suarez are worth it and about 4 minutes apart.

Gonna also suggest Barcade + Beer Collective. Barcade is lots of fun. Get the buffalo tator tots if that's your thing.

Depending on your interest in amount of detour on the way (and let's be honest you are going "through New Haven" from Rochester to Saratoga Springs so you must be up for a detour!), I would consider hitting up Industrial Arts. If you are taking 81-84 it's still out of your way, but map it out and think about it. You won't be disappointed. You can then head across the Bear Mountain Bridge (gorgeous drive) and hit Peekskill Brewery. Problem with this is that Industrial Arts opens at 4 on a Thursday so you'd be getting to New Haven on the late side. Maybe I've scrapped my own suggestion!

Building 8 is enjoyable but it is small and generally only 1 or 2 styles available. It is also a bit North of any route one would normally take New Haven to Saratoga Springs.

There's a very small chance Counter Weight will be open in Hamden. Just something I would check in 2 weeks when you are down. Right now they have no official opening date but have hinted it is not far off.

You could also go out of your way and head up 95 and hit Beer'd in Stonington (opens at 5 on Friday, I believe), Grey Sail in Westerly and Proclamation in South Kingston. I see no logic in getting yourself to Trillium on a Friday evening with traffic you will dive yourself into, but someone has to mention it.

OEC is only open for call-ahead bottle sales on weekdays. 2/25 is a release event, so it will be busy.

Yes Beer Collective and Barcade. Cask Republic. No Worries Brewery in Hamden if you want to check out a new nearby brewery. Stony Creek (Branford) if you want to hang in a beautiful brewery (beers are fine). MIkro Beer Bar in Hamden is recommended. New England Cider Company in Wallingford.

If you are gonna hit up OEC, make a stop at Black Hog as well.

Thanks everyone. Lots to think about here. I didn't know about beer collective or no worries or Stoney creek. Milkro has been our list before but the hours have never worked out for us. I'm guessing we will try to get to new haven earlier in the afternoon thurs. Is there anything that will be open? I know nebco doesn't open till 3pm. We plan to spend a chunk of the day in the area Friday then get to Saratoga by evening.

Any idea of lawsons or Gandhi should be available in cans in the area next thurs or fri? We had some luck last visit.

If you make the drive into Branford for Stony Creek, Overshores is in East Haven and makes solid Belgian style brews. Also other breweries in Branford are Thimble Island and Duvig, plus Home is a great restaurant that has a stellar beer list at all times. Easy to make a day in Branford all by itself. Hope you enjoy the visit!

If you are going to get to a packie and grab some local brews, look for Thimble Island BA MAD (special release). It's highly underrated but phenomenal beer. I stopped looking for SOS and GBOT (ugh) we deserve better treatment in CT.

Sloop is about 2 minutes from Suarez. Mostly "hop bomb" styles at Sloop. Delicate, light lagers and pales at Suarez. Both breweries are superb at what they do.

SOS and GBOT remain elusive. I found SOS just based on luck. I stopped looking for them :slight_frown:
