Iv'e had this before in the 22oz format and had heard that it was aged in Barrels that previously held Dragons Milk although the website does not mention this. Now, I just found pilgrims dole in 12oz four packs and it clearly states aged in bourbon barrels. Has something changed with the beer or is it the same pilgrims dole I had in the 22's ? Because, honestly, when I had it in the 22's I couldn't taste any barreling, but now that it say's "bourbon barrel aged" I can taste it and it's 10 times the beer I remember. Just me or clever sensory labeling ?
Same as it ever was, they have just started to be a bit more clear and informative in their labeling and marketing. They will admit that the recent batches have a bit more barrel character to them but it is still the same recipe and process.
All the more confusing that there are two separate listings for it on this site - the "Bourbon Barrel" PD of course gets higher ratings
righ Bad thing is I don't know if it is because it says it now or what, but this is a better beer. To me at least.
This has been reported with a copy of an email from a brewery rep, either they are still getting around to it or they completely ignored it.
this years seemed pretty hot to me but I feel with a little age it has great potential the flavors behind the heat were above average.
Just got a 4 pack can't wait to try this tonight and see if it is any different than the previous vintages.
