Just saw this on the Millstream Brewery website: "Look for the Cabin Fever Doppelbock at the brewery and in stores now! We just bottled it Tuesday so it is at its freshest! This Doppelbock is a thick, smooth and stronger lager brewed in the traditional doppelbock style. Plenty of Munich malts and darker caramel malts give it a rich and full-bodied flavor. It is a typical stronger beer and contains enough malty goodness that it has been considered for centuries as a meal in a glass. O.G. 19.6° Plato F.G 5.6° Plato 27 IBU 24 SRM 7.9% ABV On the menu for the rest of the year back by popular demand is the Raspberry Trippel, and new will be the Pumpkin Imperial Stout and a Roasted Chestnut Barley Wine. Chris, our brewer, is having fun again this year!" I have to say I'm looking forward to sampling these new brews. The doppelbock I'm a little suspicious of because of their 30th anniversary doppelbock... But I will reserve judgement until I get my mitts on a bottle. I have never had the Raspberry Trippel. Anyone out there tried it? Thoughts? As a huge fan of Imperial Stouts and Barleywines, I'm very excited to hear Millstream will be releasing some unique versions of each. Looks like there are some potentially delicious things on the horizon for Iowa!
All of these will be bottled? Imperial Pumpkin Stout reminds me of Summit's Imperial Pumpkin Porter which was outstanding. Hopefully this one is along the same lines. The Trippel and Barleywine sound tasty too for that matter.
I just received this email as well. I am with you on the doppelbock, was not a fan of the last one they did (or much they do in general). I didn't mind the Raspberry and had it at the brewery (I don't think they bottled it). The imperial stout sounds fun, but a lot can go wrong there and I am a bit wary of roasted chestnut in a barley wine. I will have to try them though as the brewery is only 30 minutes from me and I try to support local, but I believe they're really falling behind on the Iowa beer scene with the great stuff Toppling Goliath is putting out and now with Angry Cedar expanding is distribution and Red's attempting to open a brewery as well.
I hear you. I'd say I'm approaching these new millstream beers with "cautious optimism." I thought the DIPA was "meh" but I was very impressed with their Weizenbock. I had no idea Red's was trying to open a brewery. That's awesome news if it works out! I live in Iowa City and my parents live up in North Liberty, so I'd always have an excuse to stop in if I'm up there visiting. Hopefully sometime soon TG will be able to start bottling and distributing to more of Iowa. I've only had their stuff a couple of times at some of the IC craft bars.
As far as I know, they will be bottled. It sounds like they are the next in the lineup of their "brewmaster's extreme series", all of which have been bottled in the last year and a half or so.
