New Place / New Beer Alert

Great Idea.

 

This would be pretty neat. Would it include the info about a beer in the alert, such as the style or availability?

 

Since, presumably, an alert would be for when a new beer from brewery "X" was added to the BA database, we could get pretty much anything that was in that record (name, style, can/bottlle/bomber, etc.)

That's not the same event as the release to the public of something new. How BA would track such a thing is hard to imagine being easy to do.

 

I would definitely like to be able to follow a brewery, I don't know about geographic area though.

 

A very good point. They would need to have someone curate those alerts, which would be a fair added cost for something that a lot of us already do by following breweries and the such on social media and via threads in the forum (perhaps this is a false assumption, of course). Some may argue that you could "simply" add another check box for "New Beer?" to the screen for adding a beer to BA, which seems plausible, but again would need policing. Do people really want a notification every time a brewery comes out with a version of Beer A with Hop Variant X, Y or Z, or Beer B is aged in Barrel Type Q, R or S? A lot of questions and quirks to work out. A blanket notification system would be "easier," but is that a service BA wants to/can justify the cost of providing? A fun thought experiment, but it all depends on (1) how easy it is for BA to implement, (2) how useful it is for users, and (3) how many users would actually use it. I like the idea in theory, but not sure how likely it is I would sign up for them -- really depends on how the alerts are designed.

The regional alert of when a new brewery/bar/store opens seems a bit easier, though that may just be my own biased thinking that a smaller amount of data would be easier to process. I would set up an alert like this.

 

I have been trying and trying to add a new place and it says it doesn't exist, but won't give the opportunity to add it like I often get to add a beer. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated.
