Alright, I'll admit I'm as big of a fan of high abv, high hops beer as the rest of you. That being I respect a beer so much more if it is able to bring delicious flavor to the table without relying on all the hops or all the abv. I am tired of searching through my favorite breweries and seeing reviews skewed by their hops/abv content. Couldn't we come up with a rating metric that somehow discounts for this?

No hops or high abv? Sours, silly :stuck_out_tongue:.

More seriously, it's called style bias and you're not going to eliminate it. Heck, people are supposed to be reviewing with "style in mind" with the system as it is, and they don't. For many styles it's probably best to just rely on the forums for recommendations, and go from there.

I don't need a list to validate what brews I think are great... especially if others agree or disagree with my opinion...

which is just what they are...

    opinions...

    they're not facts.

    PS - N ... A ..... T ..... S.... NATS NATS NATS!!!! AWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

    couldn't resist.

I'd rather have the ratings be accurate to people's thoughts on the beer, and simply keep your point in mind and take ratings with a grain of salt. I know that a pilsner that I think is exceptional probably won't score as highly as that IPA I consider solid at best, and I take that into account when considering ratings.

Yes - we need to rate beers for what they are not what we wish they were based on our biases. I sure don't want some hipster rating all of the non-gluten-free beers low just because they have adopted a trendy diet though they are not one of the unfortunate few with a real gluten issue (soapbox). Similarly, I am starting to disfavor high ABV beers - and switching to lower ABV as I drink through my cellar - but I won't mark them down for high ABV.
