So, not that I'm not excited about this... but what's the difference between a brewpub and a restaurant/bar with a nano-brewery attached?

Good question and I'm not sure if there is one. For comparison's sake, I rifled around the CBC's website. In their Our Story section, they refer to themselves as a "brewery-restaurant." Under Phil Bannatyne's profile it reads that he set off to "open a brew-pub." Tomayto/Tomahto?

Stoked. I just moved to Malden over the weekend and there ain't a whole hell of a lot going on up here in the way of drinking establishments. A Redbones would be great!

Yeah, I've been living there for almost a year. This is much needed. I've found surprisingly good sushi, good Chinese food, "big" craft (GI, Widmer, etc), but a bar I actually jones for (along the lines of CBC or even Sunset) has been missing. It can't open soon enough.

And some people knock them for their BBQ, which I don't get. But I've only ever passed through the South. I dig their food.

Oh, and welcome to the neighborhood!

It's been a while since I ate there, but my recollection was that it was lacking in smoke. I also have a vague notion that it was undersalted as well. But of course arguing the merits of various BBQ places might as well be arguing politics or religion. That said, give BT's in Sturbridge and Blackstrap in Winthrop a try if you're looking for places that Redbones naysayers like.

I wonder if it's a license thing--brewpub vs. brewery. If you're a brewpub, >50% of your beer sales must be produced on premises. If they just want to dabble in brewing, they may not reach this threshold.

The problem I have with their food is the quality. I've been served a lot of tasteless dried out meat. I had catfish that was so swampy it was almost inedible. But I've found their jerk chicken is actually great. Other than that I've been there plenty of times to realize the food is nothing to write home about even on a good day.

Especially because Five Horses and Foundry have been stealing the Davis Sq. award from them.

This is gonna be huge in this area. I live in Melrose and there's no comparable beer bar, let alone good BBQ, in the area. I've been hoping Amesbury Ale House or someone like that would come to town. Lots of young beer loving famiies in the area. Will instantly be a go-to spot. Build it now!

Word on the street is August opening if all permits glide through. Wondering who the brewer is going to be. Can't wait. Finally back to having a good local for the first time since I moved out of Camberville.

I bet the prices are much lower for beer given it's in Malden.

Five Horses and Foundry can go fuck themselves. I thought Redbones prices had slowly increased, then I went to those two places. Their prices may be the highest in all of the Greater Boston area....right up there with Bukowskis in Cambridge and their horrible pours.

I was hoping the competition for good beer in davis sq would be good for consumers and it ended up having the opposite effect. I rarely go to davis sq anymore, and when I do its usually Flatbread.

    Thanks!
Care to save me the search and tell me where the good sushi is?

Gladly. All Seasons Table on Pleasant St. I'm hardly a connoisseur, but I'm pretty sushi-saavy and this place is pretty boss. The unagi is fantastic.

It's also right across the street from Hugh O'neill's, which is more or less a typical sports bar, but they're the place with the decent 'big craft' selection that I mentioned earlier. Also, they have trivia on Thursday.

I was just at All Seasons Friday for the 3rd time ever, very good. Blue Fuji is very good as well. DO NOT go to Sei Bar, I got food poisoning from that place on Valentines Day!
