I have a nice SS brew kettle. The bottom is a bit thinner so I start seeing marks from the heat. I try not to make it too hot but I was wondering if I may be able to put a piece of metal down on the burner that I can put the kettle on to maybe allow for the heat to radiate a bit more and be more even. Thoughts?

Are you talking about scorch marks on the inside or outside? What are you using as a heat source?

Try like a cookie sheet or a bigger pie pan...

some ghosting on the bottom of the pot is not unusual in my experience. especially if you are using a turkey fryer/high output flame.

if your wort is not scorched, if you don't have excessive burning of sugar, if you aren't scraping carbon from the bottom of your pot, it is most likely not too much of an issue. there is a distinctive pattern visible after every boil in my pot, but it doesn't make the beer any different.

if however, you do get burnt wort, keep the flame low and place some heavy metal over the flame and under the kettle. or consider a new pot.
    Cheers.
