Mill St. Brewpub will be opening in St. John's, NL in the near future. Who has been to these brewpubs across the country? What're the reviews, and what should we expect/look out for? Cheers! Link Below: http://www.canadianbeernews.com/2016/02/08/mill-street-brewpub-planned-for-st-johns/
They're OK. When Ottawa's location opened there were probably less than 3-4 craft breweries in/around the city. Now we're upwards of 25-30. There is some creativity to them and it's always nice to have options, but I wouldn't be salivating at the prospect.
Do you know if they do any specialities at the various locations? I really enjoy the cobblestone stout but it's hard to get regularly. Would be nice to have that and some once-off batches.
They do three beers specifically in the Ottawa brewpub. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/28214/77912/ http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/28214/80436/ http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/28214/77816/ Everything else is shipped from Toronto aside from some small one-off batches. But that could have changed in the recent past.
They had a job posting for a head Brewer in February... Any idea when it'll open? (I'll probably be there late July)
If you end up going, just make sure they actually check with the kitchen if you have a food allergy...
Just once, but it stuck with me. They served my wife food with something she was very clear about being allergic to (noted from the outset, and then asked again when the food was served). Mistakes happen I suppose (the waitress was fairly new). The manager, who apologized profusely, comped the meal, but not her one beer! She was sick for about two days and had to miss the concert she was going to see after the meal.
Wow. I can definitely see that sticking with you. I'll keep that in mind. Kinda of sad that they didn't comp the beer.
I'm sure it will be good. It is my lingering anger that made me post that. I actually remember thinking the food was pretty decent there.
