So me and couple of friends of mine were thinking about brewing our own beer, none of have done it before. Honest we don't even know the process. What are good recourses to check out and read on? What are some good brewing books/videos? What material do noobies like us to start brewing? I would like to know the ropes, thank you.
Read How to Brew by John Palmer (free online version available) I realize it seems a bit "dickish" to just say read these...but every one of these links have great info that I wish I would have known a long time ago. You will notice 90% is repeated. This is mostly due to the fact that every new brewer that post this question never uses the Beer Advocate search box so the great advice they seek is just repeated and built upon. Once you have read How to Brew, checked out your local brew shop, and checked out the links below, you will likely have many great question. Feel free to post those questions on this forum. http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/wanting-to-start-home-brewing.194902/ http://www.beeradvocate.com/communi...commendation-all-extract.195591/#post-2606607 http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/best-style-for-first-time-brewer.190894/#post-2603440 http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/rookie-needing-home-brew-help.190733/ http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/recomended-materials-for-beginners.72840/ http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/homebrew-novice.79446/ http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/just-another-noob-recipe-recommendations.78667/ http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/want-to-get-into-homebrewing-what-to-get-and-tips.76666/ http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/homebrewing-where-to-start.70838/ http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/absolute-noob-here.56172/ http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/how-do-i-start-homebrewing.62630/#post-853379 http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/absolute-beginner.22189/ http://beeradvocate.com/community/t...ewing-where-to-shop-online.49108/#post-632027 http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/start-up-cost-for-home-brewing.43242/#post-544831 http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/best-beer-to-brew-for-a-first-timer.82162/#post-1228253tt http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/first-attempt-at-homebrew.103200/#post-1513648 http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/help-a-noob.102983/ http://beeradvocate.com/community/t...reads/first-time-brewing.205630/#post-2718225 http://www.beeradvocate.com/communi...et-into-home-brewing-need-help-advice.199931/ http://www.beeradvocate.com/communi...wer-all-grain-and-deluxe-starter-kits.216897/
Is there any way to get a "New Brewer's Guide" thread stickied at the top of the homebrew forum? I've only been here a few months, and I've already seen about 10 of them go by. And people seem to get tired of answering the same questions every time...
You should look into finding a local homebrew club. Lots of great people, great beer, and tons of hands-on experience. Most people will let you sit in on a homebrew session for less than the price of a 6 pack of beer. Take a 6 pack over, just in case. http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/community/clubs/find-a-homebrew-club/
I'm in the minority that will agree with them. New brewers deserve hands-on feedback. Sorry @scurvy311
No apology needed. As a matter of fact, I'm a little lost on what the "sorry" is for. I don't disagree with you on "hands-on". I try to add to the conversation when I have first hand experience. I'm just providing information (coincidentally, an aggregation of "hands-on feedback" to indentical or closely related questions). And I'm pretty indifferent to what the Bros do with their site. It's there site. I'm just glad it's here. Assuming that is how they feel (hands on feedback), the point makes sense.
No real need for a sticky for new brewers, will end up still having new brewers questions, and for what it's worth, we all had to start somewhere. We have plenty of new brewer "help me" threads, eventually the new folks will learn to use the search function.
YouTube is a good source for visual demonstration on the physical process. I'd suggest start there and the book, 'How to Brew'.
Too bad Teh Bros didn't think to include a nifty SEARCH function so noobrewers could see whether anyone else just maybe had asked the same question once or twice or even a 100 times before.
