I've noticed that people who aren't into the bitterness of IPAs take more easily to stouts, wheat ales and strong Belgians.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Victory Prima Pils were my gateway into IPAs.

If you really want to get into craft beer here is the list you need

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/lists/fame/

This list is more 'exclusive' than it once was, and many of these beers on there you wont have access to you in your area, but the majority can be found on the shelves in most places throughout the country. Pick some from each style, and see what you like.

On a side note, I much preferred the "Beers of Fame" list before they starting including things like St. Lam and Fou Foune. Now its almost turning into a top 250 list. Maybe time to expand the criteria from 1000 ratings to 2000 or 2500 ratings.

I really believe most of these posts us craft beer afficionodo's just go off into the thin air and talk about things they like not necessarily how to ease into the world of craft beer which by the way should be called "how I started drinking DIPA"S.
Gateway beers=Sam Adams Boston Lager, Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold for domestic's.Weihenstephaner's Original,Hefeweiss and then Vitus. Victory's Prima Pils and then the biggies-La Fin Du Monde (I thought god was in the first bottle I ever drank of La Fin telling the brewmaster this is what I should drink.),Celabrator and Aventinus which is a step up and then one day in the not too distant future you will be ready for the likes of your IPA"S and finally DIPA"S.
