Ah. Kind of crappy news considering this one will most likely be better fresh according to everything I've heard thus far.

The freshness police are getting out of control. Getting this a few weeks after we thought we would does not make it "not fresh", especially given what this is. It is not a fresh hop beer; it's a black IPA that sat in barrels. Sorry for coming off like an asshole (not my intention), but sometimes people are a bit too sensitive about freshness. For some beers, that makes sense. For this one, it does not.

After tasting it - the hops already take a backseat to big sweet maple and chocolate, moderate bourbon barrel character. I was actually wondering how this will be a year down the line as the hops fade even more. I am considering aging one for that reason. I think the hops taste fine jiving with those other flavors, but I would love it if they were even a little less present - only because I was already impressed by how much of those killer maple bourbon barrels came through in the flavor.

IMO, Founders Maple BA beers tend to lose that kick-ass maple over time, though, so just be careful...you may end up with just a muted version of what you have today....less hops, less maple.

No offense taken at all, I have thick skin. And normally, I'd agree with you about "freshness police". What I find crappy is the beer sitting in a distributor warehouse for X number of weeks. I prefer to handle and store my beer in a manner I see fit. It's a small thing, but when I'm dropping $15.99 on a beer (that I am admittedly very much looking forward to), I want the option to drink it as fresh as other markets and stored in conditions I deem best.

Frankly, I don't care about whether this beer should be consumed fresh or not - I'd prefer to be the judge on that. Not assigning blame, just noting that it's "crappy".

I had 2 bombers last year. The bottle I had last night was a more enjoyable experience than I remember from last year, and I enjoyed it quite a bit last year. Might need to snag another 6'er or two.

The Stone Beerfinder is listing Xocoveza at several locations across Columbus. I picked a sixer today for 16.99 which I'm guessing is the going rate. It's as good as I remember last year the six pack format is awesome.

Hey guys, I live in Pittsburgh and would like to hunt down some Jackie O's (barrel aged if possible) tomorrow. My question is, where is a great place to pick up some? Hopefully closer to Oh-PA border but I will drive if its worth it. Also interested in out of my usual distro area stuff. Thanks in advance.

Vintage Estate in boardman, oh would probably be closest. I haven't seen any BA offerings as of the last couple months but if you make it out to Akron my cellar has a couple I could part with. Cheers!
