The subtle barrel flavors for HF beers are a reason I also enjoy them so much. It's part of the beer, it's not the only driving flavor. If you want a boozy, bourbon heavy beer... I don't think HF is what your after. They are more "I get flavor notes of the barrel" blended in with a stout base. To me, that restraint is more impressive than overly intense barrel characteristics. I wasn't a huge fan of HF until I stopped into the taproom and enjoyed all their various BA stouts. I won't buy their other stuff in the store though, until they decide to bottle date.

I'm not so sure. A buddy of mine was trying to write a paper on a local business that has international sales. After dodging a couple questions and sounding incredibly paranoid, he said "be right back"...ran out of the taproom and never came back.:grinning:

    lol!

Everyone that doesn't know him personally has different experiences with Fred, but there is one common theme, and it's that the experiences are a little cold. A lot of enthusiasts consider him an asshole, which I think is about as far of a stretch as one can possibly make. It's just a social awkwardness, combined with a very particular and meticulous personality. From what I've gathered he is very passionate about what he likes and is very descriptive if he gets into a flow. For some reason, certain people aren't able to get what they want out of Fred, but I really don't understand where this negative reputation, especially on BA, came from. Ultimately he's not trying to sell himself as a celebrity or personality, just make beer he really likes.

In regards to news articles, any that I've seen with him, (and we have a few recent examples over the past couple months about Pete's Wicked, and also asking brewers about the higher ABV laws), seem to get pretty open and opinionated views from him. I find it odd that he's one of the only brewers in Ohio to speak up about this, or at least to be interviewed--I'm not sure which it is--but I like what he's had to say about it, especially that he's got recipes ready to let loose.

Their website lists the new releases. Those are usually, if not always, on Saturday.

Any other outlet other than their website? Do they announce releases on twitter? Newsletter? Email list?

The mailing list is pretty consistent, but only for the upcoming week, as it doesn't project way far out. The Events tab calendar on their site is sometimes updated for a full month in advance, but they don't always know if something is releasing on Saturday.

Have any Columbus people seen Seventh Son's Proliferious DIPA cans around town? Their Instagram mentioned distribution by today.

Not new by any means - but Kroger on Chambers Rd. has bombers of Le Terroir for $8.99 each right now. Hell of a deal for that beer...

Could be a mistake on that particular price, but in other markets NB LOF series bottled beers are around that $8.99 mark. They screw OH on the bottle prices, yet the drafts are like $4-5 a pint. I've stopped buying the LOF bottles all together but will try a draft if I see it. Really no point in dropping cash on the bottles. My 2 cents.

According to a very reliable source that ABV law gets voted on TODAY in the House. Look for it to pass with NO ABV cap and NO restrictions.

Here are your OHIO ABV law cliffnotes:

    :: pops popcorn::

Duffey is missing. Duffey is AWOL. CBC in the house. North High also present. Here comes Duffey. This is a jobs issue. Laugh if you want, beer is art. Pumpkin spices. Coffee stouts are special. High ABV Beers are expensive. Please sip these. May cause international attention. Embrace this bill for existing Ohio brewers who slug it out. Marketing genius.

Next guy starts talking. Not a beer bill. Jobs Bill. Beer made from plants. We grow such plants in OH apparently. Glad Brew Dog is here from United Kingdom. Nice catalog. Stone didn't come here. Whiskey and gin exists. Wine is over 12%! People are spending money in Kentucky. Beverage of moderation. High ABV beer is expensive. Don Perignon, not Mad Dog. Brothers and Sisters this industry survived through the Great Recession.

Clerk on the role. 79-7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Passed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I don't follow stuff like this very often, so we are 100% good to go now or are there additional steps yet?

If completely passed, when does it go into effect? Immediately?

Yep, Governor needs to sign. Should happen in the next weeks/month/two tops. Shouldn't be an issue since Republicans drove it through with huge majority #'s.

Typically just needs the Gov's John Hancock to enact. Just make sure he signs it before Black Friday!!
