I have a wide mouth hydroflask and get dirty looks from bartenders. No winning unless you are using shitty standard growlers.

Narrow opening aside, what makes them crappy to fill? I have no experience filling growlers so I'm clueless.

I think bartenders hate stainless because they can't see how it's filling.

Is it a standard size (32/64)? A bunch of new sizes are emerging as well and trying to give a price to a size that normally isn't carried wouldn't make many bartenders happy.

Many are not a standardized height (back when I thought they were a good idea for personal use the ones I had were taller than a regular one and thus couldn't fit under the bar. The big ones also tend to be volumes like 2L, which is technically larger than a 64oz growler, which can cause some bars to refuse them.

Most of the hydroflasks I was looking at were 40oz

I have both a 32 & 64. Hydroflasks clearly state their size on them at the bottom underneath the word hydroflask. Really its just cause they can't see. I've personally given up on getting growler fills outside breweries though.

For those that have 40 oz growlers, how do the local breweries and grocers usually fill them? Do they charge you extra or just leave head space?

Most probably wont even notice, as discussed, most places can't even fill them correctly. Plus how would they know when they reach 32oz. With most pricing set in a computer, I would think they would struggle to charge you for the additional 8oz.

I keep trying to find out what's 'new to Ohio' and keep getting redirected to the 'Growlers for Dumbies 101' page... Interesting.

Haven't seen much talk about Forest City Brewing. Anyone stop in yet? Anything there stand out?

It will see limited distribution which means full distribution in hoppin frog lingo. It isn't very good, but I'm not a fan of licorice, so I'm biased. I don't get much coffee. If it had more coffee to balance the licorice, it could have been good IMO.

Actually I got more coffee than licorice, however I will agree, it's not the best from either--I think both of the breweries independent stouts are better. My train of thought was since Zhukov and DORIS are super thick, that Daredevil would be an unbelievably dense combination of forces--alas it was not. However I still think it's a worthy pour.

I haven't laughed out loud at this thread for a long time. Although I did enjoy the growler talk....thanks for this.

$9.99 plus tax and I got it Aficionados near Polaris Mall. I'm sure the other usual suspects will get some too.

Edit: Saw on social media Crafted Drafts got some as well.
