Birds in the brewhouse. Wasn’t bad but there better IPAs on the list at Canton. I think one of the Portland brews were available. Head shrinker maybe?

 

If I thought NEIPAs were hip this would feel like my mom joining Facebook and tagging me in all her pictures.

Next step is CAMRA recognizing it.

I haven't had any Brut IPAs yet but I'd like to try this one from two of my favorite breweries. Anyone know any details about this release? The only thing I could find on Google was Bobs bar in Columbus tomorrow.... hopefully it will make it to the Akron area.

 

I found the event details for Cleveland... found on Masthead events. Cantine Broadview Heights next Tuesday. An event featuring Columbus Brewing, JAFB, and Masthead....!!

Not terribly surprising. They’ve been around a while and their best style was an American lager. I mean always hard to see craft go under, but Four String, along with Pigskin, probably brew the worst beer in Columbus

Aside from the one keg at Bob's, the rest of the batch will be sold in NE Ohio.

 

Did Nelson Brut use an English yeast strain? Sorry if that's a dumb question.. I don't know much about yeast strains lol. I thought English ones weren't common in American IPAs.

 

No. Any previous "brut" batches were brewed with Cal Ale/Chico, which is our house strain. The "inventor's" idea behind the style is that the yeast should be pretty neutral and clean, to allow for the perception of a super crisp and dry beer.
With "Paul's Brutique" we discussed doing the same thing, but using London III in hopes of getting a little more estery character....knowing it was going to dry out regardless. Perhaps we'd get a more interesting end result with it.

I think yeast strains with English origins are plenty popular in American IPAs, but so is Cal Ale/Chico. We used London III as our house strain for years. It depends more on the balance of the beer, malt profile, bitterness, and hop selections/usage in determining American vs British IPA.

 

Is Yakima dropping this week or next week?

Bottled yesterday and today. Deliveries should start Mon in Columbus and Wed in NEO.
NW Ohio is picking up beer Wed, so I'd expect by Thurs/Fri next week for those areas.

I don't take the opportunity to give a shout out to Thirsty Dog nearly enough, but I had their latest iteration of Xahoo last night out of a growler next to a Parish DDH Ghost in the Machine, and was floored. Although the Parish was phenomenal, it's an obviously off-balance beer and Xahoo actually edged out the DDH GitM to my palate. It blew away my expectations with a spicy bite of cannabic, dank peppery peach with a touch of biscuit and a satisfying medium full body. Definitely looked a lot different than the pics on Untappd, but they're continuing to tweak it and I like the direction they've taken it.

Best beer news I've heard in a long time!

 

Tomorrow night at the Wine Spot in Cleveland Heights there will be an Expedition Stout vertical tasting with flights from 2015 to present from 6-9.

Also at various Heinens they're celebrating Cleveland Beer Week with various collabs on tap. Abuela's Chocolate Porter @ 10.1% for $16/growler is particularly tasty.

Great aroma. Really ripe fruit. Lots of herbal/piney resin and bitterness. Insanely drinkable.

 

Just had some Stalker and it is really nice this year... Prefer it over Stryker.

Picking up some Yakima in the next day or two to compare. Looking forward to it.

 

I'm still looking for both Yakima Fresh and Hop Juju in the Akron area. Columbus usually shows up on Wednesdays at my normal spots.. did a quick check at my local spots and no sign of it yet. Anyone in the Akron area see either yet?

Just picked up a 12 pack today. Better than the 4 bottles I got last year (because I got the last 4 on the shelf lol)

 

Will be interested to hear thoughts, esp. relative to your experience as you can remember it last year. Haven't found any around here yet.

 

Last year it was exquisite. With a fresher IPA I tend to drink half of it extremely fresh (it's only 8 days old) and half of it with a few more days on it.

I trust WM's faith in it because he's never steered me wrong before.

 

The Hills Market downtown didn't have it y'day, they typically get CBC quickly. Weiland's had it today. Grabbed a couple 4's. Now, where is the Juju lol

 

I got mine at my go to spot in SE Ohio (Athens Kroger). That one grocery store gets so many of the heavy hitters ASAP. Must be a vibrant market because of the college lol.

 

May be a dumb question, don’t crucify me...but does Yakima typically fly off the shelves around Columbus, or does it linger for a week or two?

I ask because I will be up in Cbus on Tuesday for a meeting and was going to try to grab some if time allows. I wish CBC was available down here in Cincy.
