Greetings everyone. Just got to pensacola not long ago and am having trouble finding a good place to hang out and have a great beer. Also tried a few shops and they all looked pretty bare. Other than jaihlai. So now that I'm here for a while. Where is the beer scene here?
I honestly don't know a ton about that area, but have frequented the Destin/Grayton/PCB area quite often. My buddy Randy runs the Destin Wine World/Craft Bar http://thecraftbarfl.com/ and per their site, the Wine World in Pensacola is due for a craft bar next year. Hope it helps.
Pensacola has definitely improved in the last five years or so but by no means on the level as some of our counterparts in south Florida. I don't go out much anymore, but the more popular places to drink are WOB and Hopjacks (Palafox). We have a local brewery - Pensacola Bay Brewery and a popular Irish pub called McGuire's that brews as well. There is also a little restaurant called Goat Lips Deli that has a small brewing program. As for bottle shops, we have all the Richey's Liquor locations (9th ave, 9 mile, Gregory), Bambooze, Wine World, Paradise Liquors, and Perdido Liquors. The Winn Dixie and Publix grocery stores are starting to stock up on their craft offerings and you should be able to find Jai Alai, Funky Buddha Hop Gun and Floridian Hefe, BP Sculpin and GF Sculpin, and several others.
