Georgetown has always been knocking it out of the park, but people don't really notice since:

    1. No HYPE!!! surrounding them.
    2. People see Manny's everywhere and assume everything is like that.
    3. Did I mention no one hyping them up with the tradeboiz?

They still get lost in the shuffle of hypewalez and hazefodayz hyperbole (which is funny because Camp Stories is a great hazy IPA), but that's ok with me and apparently Georgetown since they do well.

And, I will come to aid of Mannys. It's a perfectly fine "drinkin' beer", and one that I sometimes choose over "better" options.

It's almost as if Georgetown has reinvented themselves. For years I associated Georgetown with Manny's and their 9 lb.porter. Both beers were serviceable, but hardly anything to get very excited about. Manny's in particular seemed like an easy to appreciate, "made for the masses" pale ale that I could find all over town whenever I came up to the Seattle area. If a hotel or dive bar had just a couple of tap handles, you could pretty much predict that Manny's would be one of them.

The result is that I pretty much stopped paying attention to anything Georgetown did. I literally can't remember the last time I had a glass of either Manny's or their porter.

However, a few years back I saw Lucille on tap, and at the recommendation of the bartender, I gave it a try. While nothing mind blowing, I thought it a decent, well made IPA that completely surprised me. It was such a big step up from Manny's. Still, that one beer really didn't change my overall impression of Georgetown. However, some years after that I was at a beer bar in Florence Oregon, and saw the Bohidzafa on tap there for the first time. There weren't a lot of great IPA options on the tap list, and so I figured what the hell, I'd give it a try. Now that beer completely turned my head around regarding Georgetown. Still, even a blind squirrel can find a nut on occasion, and my initial thought was that maybe they somehow managed to catch lightening in a bottle, and this was an aberration. Since that time, they've put out the fresh hop Johnny Utah, tank girl and the MEOWSA! Something has definitely changed at Georgetown.

I definitely think people equate Georgetown with Mannys and don't dive in any further. Always great beers available for growlers at the brewery.

FH Johnny Utah came before Bodi or around the same time. A few years back Georgetown did five fresh hops for the season and that was the crown jewel of the series.

I didn't think much of MEOWSA!, though.

I don't remember being all that impressed the first time I had the FH JU. However, this fall when I had it in Hood River, it was a game changer. It was so good, I started actively looking for it around town. I remember when NWIPA got a couple of kegs, I started going over there every day until it was all gone (which took about two or three days).

Manny's is a perfectly fine beer, but it's too malty and often has a bit of a "dirty" taste to it.

Never stops me from turning down a pint, but there are other beers I'd prefer.

IMHO, Manny's is a good 'gateway beer' for those who aren't used to hops. Also it is nice to have on hand when you hit palate fatigue and just want to readjust.

And Bohdi is always a treat to find when I head over from Kitsap to the fertile crescent that is Seattle.

I don't understand the popularity of Manny's at all. I don't care for it.

I have to admit that I am more often than not looking for IPAs of the style and quality of Lucille as we, at least those of us in Seattle who frequent craft beer bars, seem to be inundated these days with these NE-style juice bombs. I want a damn good, clean, hoppy NW-style IPA when I want an IPA. For examples, I like Fremont Interurban, Reuben's Crikey, Georgetown Lucille, et al. I already have fatigue for Skookum, Cloudburst, et al overly favoring these juice bombs. I'm more impressed with breweries that can craft an IPA that meets my criteria above.

Might I suggest Jackass and Mammoth Jack from Skookum, and Cedar Dust from Boundary Bay?

Just dropping in to throw in some more praise/recommend Georgetown Bodhizafa. It's a top 5 beer for me!
