Hey helpful BAers! I just finished the 1800+ journey from Boston to my new home here in the Willowbrook area of Houston (Cypress?). In Boston there were a few bars that I frequented that always had a great selection of beer and even mug clubs. Looking to hopefully find something to fill that void here. I know you guys will be able to help me with that, so suggestions of great beer bars in the area and maybe even a craft beer store?

    Thanks!

You are probably 10-15 minutes from The Petrol Station, which has an amazingly fast rotation of taps and lots of specialty kegs roll through. We also like it there because they sell half pours, so you can try more beers.
Mug clubs are generally at brewpubs, which you wont find many of here. TX has some crazy beer laws. However, most beer bars have a pint night offering $3 pints.

They do half pours at petrol?! Need to start taking advantage of that...

I used to live over there. The best place that was close by is Fox and Hound. About 20 craft taps if I remember correctly. I also love Rockwell Tavern (which is closer to where I live now), which has much better food and about 15 taps that rotate very often. They focus more on local TX breweries.

    Welcome to TX!

Yeah, I think it is actually good for the bar. One tends to drink more and faster when they aren't bored with their beer. Good for us tickers as well....lol

Welcome, my favorite place is Rockwell Tavern.

They have about 12 taps that are all good. The thing I love about this place is that they seem to get TX beers that no other place in Houston gets. The food is amazing as well. They use beer in a ton of their recipes. I would recommend the Laguna Surf burger.

Another good semi-beer bar is Kilburn's off of Barker Cypress. Typical Irish bar, but last time I was in there they had Divine Reserve 13 on tap.

Store, Spec's on Jones Rd and 290. Best in the area

I wouldn't say they get beers that "no other place in Houston" get but certainly no other place in Northwest Houston.

The Spec's on Jones and 290 is the best in the area that I know of. Chat with the girl in the beer department and she'll let you know about limited releases that come in.

Also, this isn't near Willowbrook but it's in Northwest Houston and may close enough to you. There's a Chevron station with a pretty good beer selection on the corner of West Road and Telge Road. I was in there today and they still had Divine Reserve 13 six-packs and bombers on the shelf.

Welcome to TX. I'm not too far from Willowbrook. Don't forget about where to buy beer: Vintage HEB, Specs Spring Cypress/249, and like rainer said above Specs Jones/290.

We should do a NW side bottle share one of these days.

About 1/2 hour down to Petrol Station from Willowbrook area-unfortunately.
I second Rockwell. They do bottle sharing on Wednesdays.
Fox and Hound will usually have a few decent taps and is good for Saturday afternoon college football game watching.
Mellow Mushroom will have several TX/Houston taps on at one time. They rarely have any BMC on tap.
BJ's is good for a Friday afternoon happy hour too! Beers contract brewed by St. Arnold.

    Welcome to Houston Dicers.

Yeah I have seen that Rockwell has a regular bottle share. I've seen what people bring to that and it doesn't interest me at all.

Yea, it's not exactly a rare beer bottle share but once in while someone will surprise you. Just a laid back night to have a burger and try a few different beers.

I know I just put down their hosted shares, but Rockwell would be a great place for it. If we do it an non peak time for them since they are pretty small. Maybe its time to start a new thread...

Thanks guys for all the great information! Just randomly swung into the Specs and they had a pretty good beer selection. I'll need to check the Chevron for the DR13

I can vouch for Rockwell. Bryan is a great guy and will never steer you wrong on beer.

Ok! Was @ Rockwell last night for their Brooklyn Pint Nite, and talked to Tiffany who said she'd host a Northerners' BA Bottle Share on a separate night from Wednesday. Pretty sure she wants to keep this small. Northsiders, BM if you're interested and the date that works best for you. Let's do it soon...Pliny and Dayman must be drank fresh and don't want the offer taken off the table.

The bombers are a little expensive if I remember right (12-13) and I bet the 6-pack is about $20 but it is cool that they are staying on the shelf. I bought one or 2 every couple of weeks for awhile. Was hoping that they may have got some BBH 005 that stuck around awhile but no luck there.

Oh yeah and Rockwell is closed Monday and Tuesday night is a no-go for me. I teach a class then.
