I'm from cali and am vacationing in new York city right now. What local beers should I look for? Cali brews set the bar pretty high so I would appreciate some good suggestions. Thanks

Troegs Nugget Nectar just hit the market. And I second the Flower Power. Maybe some Great Lakes brews? Edmund Fitzgerald Porter?

If you haven't had it and like Belgian style ales, I'm partial to Brooklyn Local 1.

I just checked Rattle-n-Hum on beermenus and they seem to have Nugget Nectar (lucky bastards), so that one is a definite. I didn't think it was available in NY yet because we don't have it in north NJ, but there it is!

Brooklyn Local 1 is also a must.

In general, though, keep an eye out for draught beers from Captain Lawrence, Southern Tier, Troegs, Victory for local stuff. And if you can't get any Founders in CA (?), those should go to the top of the list.

Wait...you can get Founders in NYC?!? I'm Western NY and I'm out of luck!

If you're looking for a bottle shop hit up Whole Foods Bowery and New Beer Distributors. If you're looking for a bar, just check beermenus.com and go nuts

Gotta agree with Captain Lawrence, Ithaca, Brooklyn, etc...

NY is also 1 of 2 states that gets Kuhnhenn (if you can find it)

NYC and the surrounding Long Island area is the only part of NY that gets Founders beers. Perhaps one day we'll all get it

Rattle has NN, but they have had it for some time (listed on beermenus at least) and it is only bottles... i think that is old stock, def not the newest batch... kegs wont hit NYC until next week I have been told from the dist.

I would also recommend checking out beers from Kelso.

I don't know about specific beers (I'm in Denver) but I'll give you a place my stepdaughter on the lower east side just clued me into: Top Hops, w/ over 700 bottles, 20 taps, growler fills, and a bar as well (wish we could do that combo in Denver!) It's at 94 Orchard St, between Broome and Delancey....they do post what's on tap fairly frequently on facebook.

I enjoy Rattle n Hum, haven't had the chance to check out Top Hops as they only opened fairly recently. For shopping, I recommend New Beer and of course Whole Foods (I prefer the Bowery location).
