New York breweries and bottle shops

    I am heading to New York for the first time and any help on good Breweries or bottle shops would be appreciated. We will be in the city for the most part but will be making our way to other areas also.

    part of what they are asking is for recommendations also --- so throwing a giant list at them isn't necessarily responsive -- although obviously the search function would reveal a bunch of similar threads.

    i will throw out my usual recommendations:

    other half
    torst
    ginger man (not any time during prime drinking hours)
    top hops
    new beer distributors (although this seems to be a more controversial recommendation)

    As far as bottle shops...

    Whole Foodss are an unexpected place to find great bottles, the one on Bowery in particular.

    Murray's Cheese and Carmine St Beers are around the corner from one other, great selection and great service.

    Also, you can hit Top Hops, Good Beer, and New Beer Distributors all within about an hour of walking.

    Stinky BKLYN in Chelsea gets some great stuff but they are very expensive.

    Beer Culture if you're in Midtown.

    My first visit there last week to get a bottle of Bell's Mars, great service, I look forward to a return visit!
