Hi all, Visiting New York City in November for a few days. Just wondering if there's any places I really need to make sure I visit whilst I'm there, also a good Bottle shop would be great as I've got checked luggage! Cheers!
You need to offer some specifics as to what borough, then what area of that borough you are staying in. Even if in Manhattan, there are tons of places scattered about depending on where you are staying.
@Kanger since you did all the work let me link it for you, OP: http://bedstuybeerguy.com/portfolio/nyc-craft-beer-bar-restaurant-store-brewery-and-brew-shop-list/ https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=zwC6ezBHVgzI.kyMuRsydhsSU
Thanks for the help, I'll be on the Upper West Side but will have time and money to travel about as much as possible
I am going next week and will be in the upper eastside, but where is the best place to get bottles? Is carton available in manhattan? HF on tap?
Well, Dive Bar and George Keeley's on the UWS you should hit. Whole Foods at Columbus Circle for beer selection and to have a beer or two in the store's little biergarten. Below UWS you should hit Pony Bar in Hell's Kitchen. Also easily reachable are Rattle n Hum and Ginger Man, both worth a visit just to see if they've got a hard-to-get beer or two on tap. My favorite bar in the whole city is Proletariat and I highly recommend. Also, the Barcade near Proletariat is pretty fun. There's one in Chelsea too. The breweries are all more of a trek so that depends on how prepared for a hike you are.
Definitely hit up Other Half Brewery. That's a must. Plus it's only 2 blocks from the F/G subway, so it's easy to get to.
Upper east side for bottles is City Swiggers or Noble Grains. Best taps are at The Pony Bar, The Jeffrey, and Bondurants. HF is occasionally on tap but could take some hunting and no guarantees
If you can make your way just into Brooklyn, my favorite was/is Spuyten Duyvil (I moved years ago but visited more recently). Quirky hole in the wall type place with some pretty damn impressive bottles, imo. Only a few taps with solid choices but if you're in the mood for a Belgian you've probably never had I don't know a better place to try.
If you're on the upper west side near Columbia, consider Broadway Dive (distinct from Dive Bar and Dive 75). It's a tiny, funky little bar that also has an impressive selection of bottles to go in freezers randomly strewn about the place. It's not a bargain, but they have good stuff there.
