So THAT'S where your avatar is from. I thought it looked familiar, then I was going through pictures from when we were in Iceland a couple years ago and came across it. We drove around last time, this time it's four days of hiking Laugavegur. It's going to be tough but worth it.
Quick answer is the wrapped bottles are "free beer" so whether it's a KBBS or a 22oz shelf turd, it's free beer! I'm sure we've all been in a situation where we've went to a share or someone's house and a crazy bottle is opened that someone maybe wanted to save for a special occasion. Carpe Diem my friend, right now is the best time to drink that special bottle When I've sent wrapped bottles, I've tried to hit a want or should-be want so the person should probably know going into it that it will be a nice bottle. I think if the wrapped bottle is a "blind taster", sending something unique might be called for - maybe they really enjoy stouts but you notice they haven't checked into many adjunct or spiced stouts so you could send something along those lines to see what they blindly say about them. If the wrapped bottle is a "Challenge bottle", they will be doing something to "earn" that bottle so try to send something nice or a nice want. One other point for any new Newbies is that if your wrapped bottle is a stronger ABV%, you might want to include a clue on the wrapping. I know I don't mind drinking a 13% BA stout on a Tuesday night when it's 82 degrees outside, but other people might not enjoy that and might want to plan before opening it up. Great haul, glad the trip went well Kevin and Renee are good peeps. Sound fun, I'm in
Thanks so much @Eziel! I was pretty unsure about how to chose a 'wrap-able' beer, but I like the Carpe Diem attitude! Can't wait to start plotting about what beers to send out.
@Yourahoser will be sending out BM's sometime this week. He'll give you your target with they're "deets". Nobody should be paired with each other. You'll have to guess who your sender is. Also you sender should not be from a bordering state.
@Glustick I think round 4 has already closed Hang out or lurk I'm sure they'll be a round 5! Just to be curious. How does someone ship from Alaska? A dog sled?
@OEB and @beluga92 blew up my porch today. Unfortunately I'm going to have to wait a bit to open, as I have a dinner thing to attend. Pron will be posted soon enough, I'm really excited for the contents of both of these!
Ok, I had time to quickly tear into one box before we left. LIF box from @OEB and it's a good one! Oh, and some probably think I'm crazy, but I declined the Pliny just because I still have some from my NorCal trip and wanted something new. Modern Times Fortunate Islands x2 - Never had any MT stuff, excited to try some Almanac Tropical Platypus - Also never had any Almanac but this was a want! Midnight Sun Berserker - This has been on my wantlist for a while, looks awesome! Modern Times Monsters' Park - I hear good things about this whole series, and I love a good stout Cellarmaker Southern Passion - I suuuuuuper want any Cellarmaker hops, I loved what I tried there, especially the stuff with the unusual hops like this South African stuff Mikkeller Beer Geek Vanilla Shake - Want! Can't go wrong f with vanilla stouts. Thanks so much Kerry! These are all new ticks and aside from Cellarmaker, all new breweries to me.
I was feeling pretty spoiled already, then @beluga92 went and destroyed me with his generosity. We set up a trade and agreed on five Trillium bottles. Let me stress, these are just the EXTRAS: He noticed I hadn't ever tried any HF and wanted to send some, and I am ecstatic to try these! Also super pumped for the Galaxy Fort Point, only had the regular and DDH but I LOVE Galaxy hops. These are all new ones for me as well: Yeah, I pretty much want to try everything Trillium. DDH Congress was the biggest want (more Galaxy!) but I'm really looking forward to it all. Thanks again, I am seriously humbled by this box!
We did some hiking too. Nothing too extreme bit we climbed up to the top of glymur, and did some 10k trail hikes in the south east. Did a couple hour glacier hike too. Can't wait to go back. Are you back packing? Cabins or tents? I love that the sun doesn't set.
