Stu can (see above). Also check http://beerbybart.com/ also read this forum religously. also check some local beer blogs. Here is one, with links to some others. http://www.bayareacraftbeer.com/ My peronal favorites in SF are Toronado, Public House, La Trappe, Amsterdam Cafe (bars); City Beer, Healthy Spirits (stores); 21st Amendment, Magnolia (Brewpubs). Venture out of SF for some other great spots, none of which will top Beer Revolution. But mostly, read this forum...where this question is asked often and we are always looking for new people to answer it. Welcome to San FranCisco.
There's your answer right there. I would also add that (at least as of early last year) Comstock Saloon in North Beach had vintage (and by vintage I mean 20 years old) bottles of Anchor OSA and SN Celebration. Worth looking into.
Can anyone explain the resentment towards calling San Francisco "San Fran" rather than "The City" (as if its the only one) or San Francisco? Seems like any time a BA says San Fran, folks are up in arms. I personally find "San Fran" to be rather catchy, and for lazy folks like me, two fewer syllables to say to boot!
Blame it on the extreme provincialism of SF natives. We don't call it San Fran and when you say it you immediately stick out as an outsider.
No one in the bay area has ever said "I'm going into the city" and meant Oakland or San Jose. I don't really care, though, which is why I never "correct" anyone on this.
localisms are everywhere. as said above, saying "san fran" immediately labels one as an outsider and a tourist. if you live in an area, you general have some sort of "pride" in said area, and how you view your area is how you want others to view your area, yes? for better or for worse, being an outsider and tourist makes one "not in the know" and immediately makes many people roll their eyes or give a chuckle and shake their heads in a "tsk tsk you poor person" sorta way welcome to peoples perspectives and how they view the world los angeles is L.A., you never say Los Ang. San Francisco is never San Fran. and saying Frisco went out of style in 1950. San Francisco is San Francisco, SF or the City Oakland, Berkeley, etc is the East Bay Marin and Napa is the North Bay and livermore and points east (anywhere past the last BART station) is the midwest note please read much of that with a sense of tongue in cheek oh, and to keep this relavent and such Beer!
