. . . of the Big Three would be Gay-Lussac's Law (pressure, temp) in 1808 which followed Charles's Law (volume, temp) in 1787 and Boyle's Law (pressure, volume) in 1662. This ignores several of the lesser Laws which doesn't matter at all . . . just didn't want the Forum to go over a month without any posts (where's a foamy faucet when you need one?). If anyone has a favorite Gas Law anecdote, here's the place to post them.
Wait until December 26. Plenty of draft beer questions in the days that follow. As I approach 50 my favorite gas law is to never trust a fart. Cheers
I had thought about asking whether flatulence would count as 'gas' for the OP's question. There should be plenty of jokes if we go there. But then I decided that would be too juvenile for me. However, if you're just approaching 50 you can still get away with it.
I approached 50 once . . . never making that mistake again. But fart jokes are not juvenile, they qualify as a legitimate form of comedy and they are universal. I mean, who can not laugh when they see the campfire scene from Blazing Saddles? The science of Flatology certainly qualifies as a Gas Law (albeit a minor one). In researching the subject I found my favorite to be Borborygmus, or how gases react prior to flatus. Dalton's Law (partial pressures), while useful, is quite impersonal and comes in a distant second.
My son is 14 and as I prepare him for the rest of his life, I have already told him that there is no age that fart jokes and farts are not funny.
Okay that sounds like a license to proceed regardless of age since you're the OP. And speaking of how old to be when it's okay to joke, at my age the gas law that most applies is the Donttrustus Law. You're not old enough if you haven't heard of it yet.
Boyles Law is greatly under appreciated. It is also rather simple and therefore most appreciated by dummies like me. But yeah. Farts man. Entertaining to dudes. Baffling to chicks. Sort of like Rush. Or the 3 Stooges. The world is a better place to live in with my farts. Yours, not so much. Cheers
