parents are there currently and offered to grab some beer. any recommedations on breweries for them to check out to liquor stores to hit? also any local recommendations would be appreciated
Tough spot being RI and in general on Aquidneck Island. Of the states in New England that one, and more specifically that area will be some of the hardest.

They could potentially hit up New England Brewing Company in Woodbridge, CT. A small detour going south but not too bad.
for breweries, grey sail and beer'd are nearby if they are heading back to NJ on I-95. if you search on this forum, you can get rec's for bottle shops off of I-95 in CT where if they get lucky, they might find cans of G-Bot or Sip for sale. they can also probably find grey sail beer (captain's daughter being their most well known/recommended) in the retail shops in newport or in CT if they don't want to trek it to the brewery.
My favorite area store is Sandy's Liquors in Middletown. Wakefield Liquors is somewhat nearby on the way back to I-95. For breweries, I second Grey Sail and Beer'd. Also Proclamation is just off of Rt.138 on the way back to I-95, just ask your parents to pick up a bunch of Derivative bottles and thank me later.
I'll add that Proclamation is having their first can release tomorrow evening if they are willing to venture to the brewery.
It was just sitting in cooler at Pier Liquors (Narragansett) two weeks ago. So you may have a chance if new delivery.
