Hopefully you are able to wait as late as noontime, as that is when most stores open on Sunday. The following 3 are usually mentioned among the best in and around Newport:

Bridge Liquors, 23 JT Connell Hwy, Newport
Aquidneck Liquors, 15 E Main Rd, Middletown
Sandy's Liquors, 717 Aquidneck Ave, Middletown

I'm partial to Sandy's as the manager is a real craft beer lover and the service reflects this.

SANDYS LIQUORS, technically in Middletown but let's not split hairs. Aquidneck and bridge or both good, bridge is pretty small and I have never really had great customer service there.

Your other option is Vickers Liquors, which is on Bellevue Ave in the heart of Newport. Definitely a $1 or 2 higher prices than the rest of the island, but their brown spirit and wine selection is second to none, even for the whole state.

    Sandy's is your place.

    Second for Yankee in Swansea.
What route do you plan to take? Do you plan to take the Newport Bridge over from the south (ish) or up through Providence and then down? If the second, you will likely be taking the Mount Hope Bridge.
I went to college right there, and 1776 Liquors in Bristol (I think) on rt 136 was my go-to place for good beer.
I haven't been there in *cough cough* 15+ years, so I don't know what they've been doing since then.

Wickford Package Store in Wickford is on the I95 side of the bay on your way to Newport (if you get off at Rt4 from I95). Solid selection with a good number of locals (including Grey Sail).
