Trip to Stowe, VT postponed, due to dismal forecast. En route to Newport, RI, where it is also raining (D'oh!). Any recommendations for bars/restaurants with good tap lists? Cheers!
Poor Richard was decent. But my last trips there remember it being pretty rough for good beer. And I’ve spend years visiting and surfing. Dated a girl there for a while and I never found much. Hopefully it’s gotten better! Surprised what you said for dismal weather? It’s beautiful and sunny here in NH and imagine similar in VT
For craft beer, there's Pour Judgement and Norey's, both on Broadway. Pour Judgement more modern stuff, Norey's more sours/belgians/etc. Personally my favorite drinking spots in Newport are: Stoneacre Brasserie - decent but small craft selection, I just really like their spot. Nice wine and cocktails Busker's Pub - classic pub beers but a rotating craft selection too. But I always just get Guinness. Fastnet Pub - also Guinness time. Midtown Oyster Bar - hey what do you know I get Guinness there too.
honestly it's more of a cocktail town. Go drink some gin & tonics or dark & stormies on the Castle Hill lawn.
These are about right. Mission burger bar is in the Broadway area and has some good cans. Newport Craft Beer & Distillery has a nice patio and average-ish beer, but mixed drinks if you are traveling with others. Rejects Beer Co is a new brewery just on the other side of First Beach. I live in northern RI but my office has moved from Newport to suburban Boston as of ~2 years ago, so my name is a bit obsolete! RI/MA beerguy??
Coddington Brewery has been around (in Middletown) for ages - that's where my friends took me on my 21st birthday, from Roger Williams in Bristol.
Never been myself to Rejects but taproom looks eclectic and beers appear to be rated average to slightly above, based on ratings. I believe the brewery is either owned by or close partners with the growing Diego's restaurant brand. The brewery takes up the building next door to the Diego's Bodega a stone's throw from Eastons (First) Beach. My experiences at Taproot have been very good, I have not been "wowed" by a beer there but have never had any off-flavor or off-style beers. The Taproot covered patio was pretty clutch when I wanted to take my wife out last year for a pandemic birthday but there was an iffy weather forecast. And they offer both beers and Newport Vineyards wines also made in the building.
