This is awesome. I love all things smoked/rauch, in fact they're my favorite styles. Is this your site?

What does that even mean? I get that many people want the complete opposite of piss beer. But there is something to be cherished and honored when a brewery makes a really great pilsner , void of any defects. Defects that get hidden behind 3lbs. of dry hopping/ bbl. Too many hyped beers just burn up and die within 3 weeks, yet a shelf Pilsner Urquell has a shelf life of some 9 months. Fresher is always the best, but finding styles that have some longevity have been something I have been going for more often.

Personally I still feel fruited beers are trending. I overhear many people at beer stores casually stating, "Wow. I like pineapples. Lets give this a try". Or " I liked that grapefruit sculpin. Let me try something else fruited". IMHO, it may be the fruited lighter styles, along with a return to beers nearly that of "piss water". Core lineup lagers or pilsners are making a splash. We may be making a return to sessionablity, without those damn session IPAs.

I've seen a lot of people splash around with hype and high ABV beers, then gradually go back to nearly what they drank in college. Maybe we see a trend where more people come full circle and the higher class pilsners and lagers get their shine

Of course that is also, in part, because:
--- MillerCoors "How to Read Code Dates"

    Or:
"It takes a long time to get beer from Pilsn, Czech Republic to Podunk, so we make that beer's "Best before" date more than twice as long as that of Miller High Life or Coors Light".

...not to mention that MC's Pilsner Urquell "Freshness Initiative -Express Shipped Cold" (shipping the beer in refrigerated containers) is routinely ignored once the beer gets to the retail level - and, probably, at the wholesalers' warehouses in some regions.

    Kölsch

Would like to see a pineapple habanero Kölsch, though I know there are those out there that think Kölsch shouldn't be tainted with other flavors.

    fruited berliners and gose
Low ABV, huge juicy flavors. Brewers can get creative and create hype based on wild combinations.

Locally in Minnesota, Schell's Brewery has been releasing fruited berliners for some time now and they've mostly been great. The Starkeller Peach release a couple years ago was fantastic. I also recently visited The Answer brewpub in Richmond Virginia and what they are doing blew me away.

Has anyone said Kettle Sours? I don't see a beer drinking world, where the super hype train isn't riding for hoppy beers, stouts or sours. The pilsners, english bitters, standard saisons, etc will always have like "craft hipster cred", but i think they are too much of a niche market in a (albeit large) niche market.

Not to say there is anything wrong with those other styles. Personally, I like a traditional saison and belgian single, but I can't imagine those being hyped by the masses.

Firstly, permit me to state I 100% understand your feelings here.

Whew! With that out of the way let me state there is a very easy 'answer' here: simply choose to not drink these sorts of beers and let @bbtkd drink up these beers!!

It seems to be 'popular' to criticize folks for drinking 'non-standard' beers and I have no doubt I have posted this way in the past but the 'best' solution is to let folks choose and drink the beers they want to drink.

    It's all good!!

    Cheers!

You mean on purpose, or just badly-used oniony hops?

Piss would be a distinct flavor that I could spot in a beer, and would hate. It's the lack of any flavor that I'm commenting on. I prefer beers with a robust smoky taste. You ever taste test a Budweiser next to a Bud Light? I don't get anything in the latter.

This site belongs to everyone. And it would be less fun if I didn't get to keep the authorship somewhat mysterious. Feel free to direct SBM to a beer that hasn't been reviewed yet, we're running short on material. Thank you for your interest:slight_smile:
