Next Noobie Question Re: Airlock

    First, thank you for all the recommendations to use Vodka in the airlock (instead of StarSan). Next question, is it common to have to keep adding vodka to the airlock? I filled it 24 hours ago and it needs to be filled again. It is still happily bubbling away. I am in Denver where it is extremely dry (maybe 15% humidity outside and even drier inside the house). Does Vodka evaporate? Thanks again!!

    Oh, and by the way, I moved the fermenter to a different location where the ambient temperature is ranging from 58 to 60 degrees, so hoping that will get my fermentation temperature in a better range.

    Yes, it's not unusual to have to top the vodka off at some point.

    Another possible reason for losing the liquid in the airlock is the moving the fermenter to the colder location that you just did. As the wort and the air in the fermenter's head space contract because of the cold, a lower pressure inside will tend to draw the liquid inward to try to equalize the pressure inside and outside of the fermenter.
