Hey guys, Quick question. I recently acquired a bottle of this years Natty Greene's American Sour Ale. Is this the same beer as the 230th American Sour Ale that was brewed a few years back, or is it completely different? Cheers, Eric
I'm not entirely sure, as this doesn't mention the 230th in the link, but I believe this is a completely different beer: http://nattygreenes.wordpress.com/2012/09/24/sour-released/
NG has done a few sours over the years. I have a bottle of the 230th I've been holding for a special occasion (10 of 230). That occasion needs to hurry up and get here!
It's a similar beer, both considered Flanders Red. However I don't think they are the exact same. 230th had 230 bottles. American Sour 2012 had 240 bottles so both are very limited.
230 "The 230th Anniversary American Sour Ale honors The Battle of Guilford Courthouse (March 15, 1781), General Nathaniel Greene's most recognized effort during the Revolutionary War. In the Flanders Red tradition, we take our filtered Buckshot Amber Ale and ferment it again with brettanomyces while it ages in oak barrels for close to two years creating the savory sour flavor. Once mature, we hand rack it into bottles. The beer will continue to age in the bottle, and many people attest it only gets better-albeit more sour-the longer it remains capped. Hussah!" 6.2% ABV 2012 "The American Sour Ale begins its journey after completing primary fermentation as the flagship Buckshot Amber Ale. It is then inoculated with several bacteria including Lactobacillus, and Pediococcus, as well as a couple of varieties of Brettanomyces yeast to produce the desired sour characteristics." 6.5% ABV, 25 IBUs Malts: Base, Munich 1, Cara 20, Cara 8, Cara Munich 3, Special B Hops: Magnum, Willamette, Santium
