Will be in Niagara on the Canadian side for just 1 day. Any decent bottle shops in the town? Is there anything note-worthy that I may find on the CA side of the border that I won't find back in the US? Cantillon is my first thought, but also any decent Canadian craft or Euro beers not being distributed to US as well? Thanks in advance.
There aren't really "bottle shops" in the way you are likely thinking about it here in Ontario. All beer is sold either by the government (LCBO) or by stores owned by the big breweries (Beer Store). There is some craft beer available at the Beer Store, but generally speaking you are better off at the LCBO. There will NOT be Cantillon on any LCBO shelves, that's for sure. Also, with LCBO not all stores are necessarily equal, some have better offerings than others.I don't know the Niagara market enough to commment on any locations. But a decently stocked LCBO will have a pretty big range of Ontario craft beer, some Canadian, some US and a bit of Europe. I can't think of anything outstanding for Euros on the shelves right now, but I haven't been paying that much attention to the LCBO lately. If you can get over to Buffalo, your beer options increase dramatically. On the Niagara USA side, there is the one store I can remember, Consumers Beverage. I'm no expert on that area!
Thanks for the info. I probably won't bother looking in Niagara on the Canadian side then. I'm also doing a few nights around the NY Finger Lakes, so lots of beer options there. Muling home some Other Half beers for sure.
